First off, I think it's funny that you're asking a question like that on a board that is mainly frequented by Dreamers! Let's see how varied the reactions will be...
I actually had some difficulties in trying to understand Max's motivation for getting involved with Tess. Ok, fine, Liz gave him that whole it's-over-speech, but seriously: he also thought she had slept with Kyle in EotW, and did he try to get into Tess' pants then? Nope. And yes, he might have felt the urge to kiss her at prom because she was there when he was feeling really bad, but does that automatically mean you have to do the deed? Nope.
He was pissed with Liz, she would not listen to him about the Alex-thing, but this is SO NOT AN EXCUSE for jumping Tess bones!
Seriously, I don't understand...*shakes head*

Well I really think that the original intentions of those two never were. The storyline kept changing...back and forth. I really have to say it was the damn writers and the networks that kept changing things so many times to get the ratings higher. Unfortunately what happened was that it was written and re written so many times that the story lost focus, direction and the core essence.

This is the only reasonable explanation for all the different directions they went with with Tess. IMO of course.

Firstly I have to say I couldn't stand seeing them together but also as I sat here and thought about what one of the earlier posts said about how Max didn't really think it through about sleeping with Tess it brought up another point. Max didn't believe that Liz slept with Kyle and he brought it up at least a couple of times. I don't think he tried hard enough. If he had actually thought about it and really knew Liz like he thought he did, he would have known that she couldn't have done something like that. And then when she told him about the granolith and he questioned why she knew about it. That should have clued him in because even in the end of that ep. He asked her again. Man, men can be so dumb at times. LOL No offense to the men out there. But hey Maria didn't get it either until Liz fessed up.

This board was originally started by members of the Anti-Tess League, so you can guess what we thought of this pairing. Ew ew ew! It was just ridiculous and pointless when they added her. She wasn't even in the books. She didn't belong. Max was supposed to be with Liz, but after the whole Tess thing, I didn't want Liz going back with him. Tess ruined the show.

In summary, in case I was unclear, I did not like Max and Tess.

But Cory, weren't you the head of the Rebel Alliance?
