I know we got a little off topic back there, but I still have to comment on it:

I'm just picturing a couple of eternally bored writers here:

Writer 1: Dude, we still haven't come up with a story arc for next episode.
Writer 2: I thought we still had some lose ends to figure out from last episode.
Writer 1: Nah, that story is getting boring. Let's come up with something new and exciting!
Writer 2: Fine. I'll go switch on the internet. Let's go surf fanfic pages again. They have the best ideas.
Writer 1: That's plagiarism.
Writer 2: No way. We'll just leave the story poorly developed, unresolved, with hints about certain couples breaking up, and the entire fan community will have enough to discuss to actually notice we stole their ideas.
