I was feeling a little sentimental today and thought I would share my Roswell experience. Behr with me here, I'm a little long-winded, but I hope that you will find it worth the read. And anyone else who would like to share their feelings as well, I would love to for you to share!

When Roswell first debuted in the fall of 1999, I was just beginning my freshman year of college. I did watch the Pilot episode that first night, but I got so busy with school, that I didn't watch it again after that. Then, in the fall of 2001, I was scanning through my Teen People magazine and came across a little blurb about the show, and how it, along with Buffy, was moving to UPN for the fall season. I didn't have anything to do that night, so I tuned in to see what I had missed in the last two years. Apparently a lot! But for some reason, I kept watching throughout Season 3, and by the time I was really getting into it, lo and behold, UPN cancelled it. I watched the last four episodes and got a little sad that it was over. But I didn't think much more about it.

Then, a few months later, I was getting my daily updates from TV Guide Online, and saw that Sci-Fi channel was going to start showing the reruns of Roswell in January. I thought it might be interesting to see what I missed from the first two seasons, so I made a mental note to watch. When January 13 rolled around, I was not at home to watch the Pilot, but I had already seen it, so I didn't care. I did sit down the next night to watch Morning After and was intrigued. I sat down the next night and watched Monsters. A little more intrigued. I was not at home the next night for Leaving Normal, but I caught Missing on Friday evening.

By this point, I was starting to get hooked, and I made it a point to be home every evening at 6:00 to watch, and taped it if I wasn't able to be home. I started looking for Roswell stuff on the Internet. I looked for episode guides to see what was coming up. And I discovered the message boards and a whole hoard of people who were captivated by the show. By the time the end of Season 1 rolled around, I was bordering on obsession. The first time I watched The White Room, I was literally on the edge of my seat the whole time. Even though I knew, of course, that Max was going to make it out okay (obviously, since I had already seen Season 3), I still found myself yelling, “Run, run!” at the TV, and my heart was pounding! I think that was the moment when I realized that this show really was something special.

I also think that was the point where I really started to get emotionally invested in the show and with the characters. It was getting to the point where nearly every episode was bringing me to tears. The first time I saw Cry Your Name, I cried through the entire episode—no lie. I cried through most of Departure as well. Actually, I still bawl my eyes out when I watch those two episodes. And I was full-blown obsessed at this point. I was online everyday either posting on the message boards or searching for anything Roswell related I could find.

Which brings me to the point of my story. This is not the first time I have been obsessed with a TV show. For years I was obsessed with 90210, and I still have a borderline obsession for Friends. But no show has ever touched me the way Roswell does. I feel an emotional attachment to the characters. When they are happy, I'm happy. When they hurt, I hurt. When they are scared, I'm scared. I will always and forever cherish Roswell as a show that has touched me and moved me in a way I never thought a world of fiction could do. I know many people out there don't understand, and even make fun of, the way that Roswell fans feel about this show. But I wouldn't trade the feeling or the experience for anything. And I am so glad that I decided to watch that night.

And finally, I am so glad that I stumbled upon these message boards. None of my other friends are Roswell fans, so this is my haven where I can come and share with other people who have been touched in the same way as me. I feel that I am making some wonderful friends here and feel truly blessed to share this obsession with all of you. Thank you for being you, and for sharing this with me. :)

Damn straight! Exactly my thoughts. Actually all of my friends are kinda amazed about how long this obsession has been going on. I have been obsessed with other stuff before (not necessarily TV shows, but actors and actresses), but none of it lasted the way Roswell does. And none of it ever meant that much to me.

I always tell people that I agree that the overall storyline might suck, but that this is the first TV show where the characters are coherent and psychologically convincing. Their motivations are always compatible with the character each person on the show has; it's totally believeable. And the dialogues are great.

I started watching Roswell because it was on after Dawson in Germany. I saw the commercial for it and was like: "oh my God, the crap they come up with! Now they made a show out of the Roswell-incident!" So I watched because I wanted to laugh a little at how pathetic that show was. It was "Skin and Bones". I remember I thought Michael had the predictably necessary role of the well-off, bored high-school beau. Uh-huh. Awesome observation, Stalker. So close to the truth and all...:lol

I was surprised at how okay it was but I didn't watch the next few weeks. I began watching again somewhere in the Hybrid Chronicles, I think... No, wait, I remember I saw ARCC, that is before the HC, right? Can't remember. No brain. Oh well.

Anyway: I watched again, and liked it a lot, and started watching regularly, and was hooked after a week or so. Then I searched the net for episode downloads, and while I was supposed to be studying for a major exam at school, I s+pent weeks downloading, organizing, searching, watching.

I should mention maybe that I got the best grade out of thrity people who took the exam.- Guess Roswell does miracles to the brain. :lol

At some point I found the message boards, and in September it'll be one year I got to FD. Now if there's one thing I wouldn't wanna miss in my life, it's the time I spend here and the people I got to know.

Love you all. Each single one of you. :grouphug

I agree with you 100% there! I always tell people that I watch the show more for the dramatic aspect of it, not the sci-fi. I'm actually not much into sci-fi at all. But the characters are all so real and believable. I feel like I know them.

Well let's see ... I could disect your post but it would go on and on forever on how much I agree with you. In any case, what a great topic! And what a great story/experience! :clap :clap I loved reading it! And I'll be sure to come back and post my story asap. And I look forward to hearing everyone else's as well. :grin

But in the meantime how about a question?

1. Out of the entire experience... if you could choose only *one* thing -- what was your favorite part overall?

Just one, Jen? Impossible! :lol Okay, I'll try. Um, Roswell...it's so different from the typical teen shows. They don't get paired of with each other (think DC) and well, it's so Roswell! Sigh! I :love Roswell forever and ever! Anyway, jbangelo-Love your post! :thud

Hmm...my story, huh? Jenny, this isn't as beautifully written as yours is, but here ya go:

Well, I started watching Roswell from the first day it aired. I remember seeing the previews for the show and it caught my attention. I love sci-fi. Always have. And to see a show that was based on the Roswell incident with teenage kids, I just found interesting.Plus, I was fascinated with seeing how exactly these "aliens" worked. But I do have to admit, the thing that really made me watch at first was Jason. Seeing those previews, I had to see more of him. Love at first sight! :lol .

So, I watched the pilot. And obviously, I was hooked. How could you not be after watching that first episode? Every emotion was touched. Joy, fear, sadness, desperation...love. Jason, Shiri, Brendan, Majandra, Katherine, Colin, Nick, and Bill made it so easy to feel what they felt. Max's obvious love for Liz. Maria's fear of the aliens. Nick's total confusion about what was happening with Liz. Michael's hardness towards humans. Isabel's total annoyance with everything. And Liz's fascination with Max that quickly turned to love.

Throughout the three years I watched, the cast made it so easy to believe that what was happening in their "lives" was possible. And being the sci-fi nut that I am, you just never know. But the great thing about all of it was that throughtout all the pain and heartache, it was a love story. And I'm a huge sucker for a love story. It started out with Max and Liz and grew to include, Michael and Maria, and Isabel and Alex. It was a story about these teenage kids that had to deal with their everyday normal teenage issues under "different" circumstances.

Plus...those eyes. Those damn eyes of Jason's. *sigh*

Even when I was disappointed in the direction the show was going (Tess), I still watched. How could I not? I had to see Max and Liz. When it comes down to it, I'm a dreamer through and through. The love Max and Liz shared was once in a life time. I'd like to believe that exists. And seeing that every week made me hold out hope for that kind of love.

I will miss this show for years to come.

My thoughts exactly!

And now to answer the question about what is the best part--I guess Roswell is a form of escape for me. If I'm having a bad day (or any day at all really), I can just put in an episode of Roswell, and for that hour, I can forget about my problems or whatever is bothering me, and just get sucked into the lives of these characters that I love so much. If I feel like I need to laugh, I can watch I Married an Alien. If I feel like I need to cry, I can watch Departure (or most any episode, for that matter ;) ). If I'm feeling a little lovesick, I can watch Blind Date. Every emotion can be touched by one episode or another. How many shows can you say that about?

Aww, you guys are all so cute =P

Great stories.. I love to see people as affected as I was by Roswell.. probably even more so.

Mine isn't too exciting.. I saw a commerical for the Pilot and thought it looked interesting so I watched it, and alas.. my interest held and I only missed one episode of the entire 3 seasons, the one when Jesse kills an FBI agent.

I was so obsessed I made my friends watch it when I slept over their houses... heheh >)

Roswell has been and still is one of my favorite television shows ever.. it'll stick with me forever, since I really connected with the characters.

Cory - Loved your post! It was very well written, too...*huge sigh*

I rewatched AToTP yesterday, and I was almost flipping - damn, how much can you possibly love a TV show?! I'm just this totally pathetic person when it comes to Roswell (not that I wasn't pathetic when Roswell wasn't concerned, but it's just a thousand times wrse when it is ;) )... I just wanted to jump into the TV set every single second yesterday, exactly because of what you all said, the characters are so real, and I think the emotions flow so freely... not to mention Michael is a GOD! :thud :thud :thud How sexy and handsome can a teenage alien possibly be? :thud *faints for good*

Jenny - I know what you mean about having one ep for every modd, especially with I Married an Alien and Departure! I just :love these two to death!

VERY sexy *growl* Yes, yes, we all know he's yours, but I can dream, can't I? :lol

Yes, go Cory! Very nice story... loved it :) :) :)

All right, my story isn't very interesting, and it's sort of vague, but... what the hell :grin

The first episode I saw was "The White Room." I was really confused, but continued to watch anyway. I watched Max and Liz, and got REALLY annoyed with Tess. I fell in love with Max and Liz immediately. They were so beautiful.

Then I watched Destiny. I decided I didn't like Tess. Bitch :lol Anyway, afterwards, I watched season two and hated Tess more and more because she was utterly annoying. Hehe. This season made me fall completely and helplessly in love with M&M. I cried during Departure when Michael delivered his amazing speech to Maria. It was beautiful. Magical. And when he couldn't leave her... priceless :love :love :love

I KNEW Tess had something to do with Alex's death, but I wasn't sure. Then, when the drumming of the fingers started, I was sure. Murdering tramp. Ew. God, I wanted someone (preferably Maria and Liz) to grab her by her blonde hair and knock her down. Wishful thinking... :rolleyes

I was then definitely excited for season three. It was weird, and didn't quite have that same feeling as the last two seasons. I was waiting and waiting and WAITING for M&M to kiss like they used to... hmmm. Got upset when she dumped him... awww... :cry2

Tess came back! Whoo! Not. Go Liz :fight

After all of that, I was :wall that they were done. No more Roswell :cry :tantrum

But then I went on ebay, and bought some season one episodes, thinking it was the whole season. WRONG. It was only fourteen of the episodes. Blah. I liked them, though, especially the pilot (which I had previously seen during reruns anyway). Cried during Destiny again. LOVED 285 South :beg

Then, the reruns came. I recorded over the crappy tapings of the tapes I got from ebay, then bought more tapes and finally got to record season two. I had missed a lot of those episodes and loved watching them. I made a friend of mine watched Meet the Dupes, and got her to admit that Zan and Rath were hot :thud :jump3 Hehe. Then I got another friend to watch another ep (Disturbing Behavior, I think it was) and got HER to admit Michael was hot :drool Score.

Anyway, there's my story... boring, I'm sorry, but... yeah :wavey

I know, Spicy! I still cannot watch that scene without crying, even though I've probably watched Departure a dozen or so times.

:rollin That would have been great! I would really have liked to have seen a confrontation between Tess and either Liz, Maria, or Isabel, because they were the closest to Alex and felt the most betrayed by her for killing him.
