The Vampire Diaries doesn't return until next Thursday, March 14th, but Elena's new attitude and sassy new look are all the buzz! According to Julie Plec, Elena will be feeling quite feisty when the show returns with "Bring It On", and will get into a fight with one of her bestie's. Plec also spoils that Elena's mini-reinvention has been a long time coming and fans will love Elena's evolved style.

Not only will she taunt both Salvatores with her nakedness (sounds a little Katherine-esque, right?), but she'll get in a major fight with her BFF Caroline. And we're not talking a war of the words, but an all-out physical brawl. Who do you think wins?

"I said to the wardrobe people and Nina [Dobrev], ‘We're burning everything. So if there are one or two things that you're damn sure you want to keep, she better be wearing them when she walks out the door.' I think Nina chose a jacket and a pair of boots and we called it a day," she says.

"She had a very, very, very specific and safe style for the first three seasons, and this year, we evolved it a little bit when she became a vampire and had a little more freedom in her choices. But now we literally packed up all her clothes and put them into storage and bought her a new wardrobe."

So how's it going to look? "It's just a little hipper, a little more contemporary — more skirts and belts and accessories, and she gets a great new haircut in two episodes and has a little fun with hair color. It's been really fun to give her a new attitude," Plec adds.

Welcome to the Mystic Falls High School prom! On this week's The Vampire Diaries, it's time for another dance, but this one is unlike any of the other's because it's prom. With Elena, Caroline, Stefan, Matt, and Bonnie set to graduate, they get to spend one night celebrating their senior year as normal teenagers. Or, not...

Spoiler Alert: This preview includes The Vampire Diaries spoilers. Proceed at your own risk.

In "Pictures of You," the prom is far from normal with a humanity-free Elena as she continues to wreak havoc wherever she goes and a powerful Bonnie who has difficulty controlling her power.

Stefan and Damon have a plan. Instead of trying to get Elena to take the cure, Stefan and Damon come up with a new way to bring back the Elena they both love. An unforeseen repercussion of their plan is the emotional pain it will cause them. Plus, it provides an opening for the brothers to be manipulated in an unexpected way.

Elijah makes a decision about the cure. At a family meeting with Klaus and Rebekah, Elijah makes Rebekah an offer. If she can prove that she truly wants to live as a human, he will hand over the cure to her. Will Rebekah pass his test? And, will she still want to be a human if she does?

A Prom King and Queen are selected. The outcome of the election will be surprising, but the aftermath will be even more shocking.

Silas is determined to get what he wants. Silas will stop at nothing to get what he wants even if that means manipulating and hurting those that he needs to help him. His ability to appears as anyone seems to be limitless.

Klaroline has a moment. It's touching and heartfelt. These two are almost too adorable for words.

It's a "Friend Prom," which leads to a few different pleasant and delightful dance pairings. It's a dance! Expect the unexpected when it comes to dance partners. Could new romantic entanglements develop? How about the re-emergence of old relationships?

Bonnie's powers make an appearance. In the preview, Bonnie mentions that her couch caught on fire, but that is only the beginning of what she is able to do. She will use her powers to provide protection, but also to cause harm. Is she unstoppable?

Klaus gets a message that will send him to New Orleans. The transition to next week's "The Originals" backdoor pilot which takes place in New Orleans is revealed.

And, so much more happens. What's mentioned is just the beginning of the epic nature of "Pictures of You." It's a non-stop hour of intrigue, manipulation, and action. By the end, decisions or movement will be made in regards to Elena's humanity-free life, Silas' plan, romantic entanglements, and the cure.

The Vampire Diaries returns for the first of five new episodes in a row on Thursday, April 18 at 8 pm ET on the CW.

No I don't think so. Silas said he wanted him to know what it was like to starve for 2000 years.

oh I just seen it. Got to say I loved Klaus and rebecca tonight. I really thought Damon was going to take that potion. Feel really sorry for Stephan but I am sure someone will find him. I was like... "finally" when I seen the kiss of Damon and Elena. My boyfriend probably thinks I am really soppy now, just really nice to Damon get the girl no sire bond. I am glad True Blood is back on soon to fill the gap, going to miss this show.

'The Vampire Diaries' Season 5 scoop: Julie Plec talks Stefan's doppelganger drama, Jeremy, and Damon's happiness

"The Vampire Diaries" has done it again.

Going into tonight's Season 4 finale, "Graduation," we knew a few things would happen: The gang would graduate, in a poignant scene that celebrated their history together. Elena would, once again, make a choice between Stefan and Damon. One character who had previously died would return from the dead. And, of course, we knew that someone would take the cure for vampirism and turn into a human. But while we were busy asking who would get the cure and who would spend the summer making out with Elena, we kind of forgot about another season-long mystery: Why won't Silas let anyone see his real face?

The slight of hand gave us one of the most jaw-dropping finale twists ever... and it was just one of many. We spoke with executive producer Julie Plec about what sort of fall-out to expect from some of the most surprising finale reveals when the series returns in Season 5.

PICS: 'Vampire Diaries' characters we've loved and lost

1. Silas has a doppelganger -- and it's Stefan. Yes, the Petrova women aren't the only ones with the doppelganger enchantment in their blood. All of the convoluted twists regarding the legend of Silas, his goals, and his abilities came together. Thanks to a loophole, Silas came back to life, revealing that the immortality spell itself had a loophole: doppelgangers. Silas and Stefan share the same face. Stefan is Silas' doppelganger, and now he's trapped in a safe at the bottom of an ocean.

This is a storyline that has been in the works for about a year. "Last year, when Season 3 was over, we kept a small group of writers and we stayed for five weeks, to try to break the broad strokes of Season 4. Last year, right around this time, we came up with the doppelgänger pitch," executive producer Julie Plec tells us.

There were some complications to introducing another doppelgänger character. In Season 2 and early in Season 3, when Nina Dobrev was playing both Katherine and Elena regularly, she grew worn out, physically. Some of the decision-makers behind "The Vampire Diaries" were concerned that playing two characters could take a similar toll on Paul Wesley.

"We had to convince a lot of different people of how it could work and what could make it work," Julie says. "So that we didn't end up in a similar situation as with Katherine and Elena, where we exhausted Nina to the point of being unable to get out of her bed, because we accidentally overworked her so much. Creatively, everybody was very excited about the Silas doppelganger, it was just a matter of how long it took us to cement it, knowing that's fundamentally what we're going to do."

At the moment, Paul's not concerned about working too hard -- he's just excited to face a new challenge on the show. "He is so happy," Julie laughs. "Playing the straight man hero is not always the most exciting job for an actor, and Stefan, of all our heroes, is the straightest on the show. We get to go deeper into his ripper side sometimes, but for Paul, those moments are tvd-423-graduation-bonnie-kat-graham.jpgjust pocket moments of opportunity to dig deeply into his craft, and a lot of other times he feels like he's just grooming his hero hair. So obviously, he's very enthusiastic about this, and has been supportive of it all along. He's been dying for something; to be a jerk, to be evil, to be the bad guy, to be able to stretch his muscles."

And in Season 5, he definitely will.

2. The resurrection of Jeremy Gilbert: "Vampire Diaries" fans are used to characters dying -- and occasionally, they pop back up later, whether it's as a vampire or as a ghost. Still, we were (pleasantly!) surprised to learn that Jeremy was coming back from the grave permanently, particularly because his goodbye episode was so heart-wrenching. Didn't the writers worry that resurrecting him would dull the impact of his beautiful, memorable send-off?

"It's something that we talked about a lot," Julie says. "Our intention, originally, was to say goodbye [to Jeremy] permanently. But then a lot of questions came up about the power of this girl losing her only living relative. It was so important to her journey at that moment. The global, eternally reaching tragedy attached to that is really sad, and really depressing."

Though Jeremy had to die in order to push Elena into the next phase of her life as a vampire, the writers quickly realized that it'd be impossible to bring her back from that dark, desperately tragic point in her life unless they revived Jeremy. Without him, Elena was looking down a long, black tunnel of depression -- and that wouldn't make for a particularly lively Season 5.

"We argued a lot, in the writer's room -- could we successfully bring this character back in a way that wouldn't feel cheap? Ultimately, I think that the way that it plays out, it does feel like the natural gift at the end of the season for this character that has been through so much," she explains.

PICS: 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 4

Now Elena has a chance at some happiness in Season 5. "[Getting Jeremy back] resets her, in a way, where she can now get on with her life and live like the Elena that we know," Julie says. She is cautious, because she knows that some viewers might not be pleased with the loophole Jeremy steps through to return to the land of the living. "Critically, you can look at something and go, 'Well, that's a take-back, it's not fair,' but emotionally, I think, it's a positive. We might get hammered for it. We'll see. I'm hoping people will be so glad to see our Elena pull her life back together, they'll accept it."

3. Bonnie will still factor in to the storylines. Jeremy didn't exactly get a free ride back to the land of the living. Bonnie sacrificed herself in order to bring him back for Elena, and now she's trapped beyond the veil -- invisible to everyone, except for Jeremy.

It's certainly a tragic loss, but don't worry, Bonnie fans. Kat Graham will still be a big part of the show. "Here's what I'll say about Bonnie: I haven't personally seen 'Being Human,' but I do know that they have a ghost character that operates pretty successfully on that show," Julie says. "This is not the last we've seen of Bonnie. If anything, she will be right there in the middle of story next season, just with a few new complications."

tvd-graduation-nina-dobrev-elena-423.jpg4. Delena goodness! By giving Jeremy his life back, Bonnie essentially gave Elena her life back, too. Unencumbered by the sire bond, her grief, or a gaping hole where her humanity should be, Elena finally got to evaluate her love life with a clear head -- and she chose to be with Damon. "In death, you're the one that made me feel most alive," Elena told him. Cue the mouth touching! Now, with her vampire boyfriend at her side, she might just be able to enjoy college.

It's been a rough few years for Damon when it comes to his love life -- but Julie tells us it's finally time for him to have some legitimate joy in his life. "Yes. Absolutely," she says. "We're going to get to see Damon trying to be a good boyfriend, and while it's not going to be easy, he's going to try like hell to make it work, and they're going to have a real opportunity for happiness."

5. And what about Katherine? This season, we've seen a much more vulnerable side of Miss Katerina Petrova. She spent most of the year on the run. When she finally opened up and fell for Elijah, he rejected her in favor of a new beginning with his family. And then, in a moment of weakness, she allowed Elena to get the upper hand in a major showdown in the high school hallways. Elena, driven by very human emotions, shoved the cure down Katherine's throat. The thing that Katherine fears most is mortality. Elena gave it to her.

Just don't expect Katherine to go all Elena on us now that she doesn't have to drink blood to stay alive. "As a human, she's still very, very bad," Julie laughs. "If anything, she feels silly for letting herself get vulnerable, and she's taking out that frustration of her own vulnerability on Elena. If Elena goes after her, Katherine's still ready to kick that puppy."

Yeah, I have seen Being Human (cute show btw) and the ghost in it is one of the main characters. It would be kind of cool to see this happen with Bonnie.

I'm so excited to see Damon with the girl finally and having Jeremy back and watching Katheryn being human (this is gonna be fun :lol )

As far as #1 up there-- I *so* did not catch that during the show. Stephan's Doppleganger? Huh? I'm not sure I like that idea so much. :thinking

‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5: Nina Dobrev gives hope to Stefan/Elena fans

Is The Vampire Diaries love triangle not going your way right now? See what Nina Dobrev has to say about Elena and Stefan’s “cosmic” connection.

The Vampire Diaries season 5 begins airing in exactly one month, picking up a few months after the season 4 finale.

Last season, Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) found their way to one another despite sire bonds and other complications, while Stefan (Paul Wesley) found out he was the doppelganger of Silas – who then proceeded to trap him at the bottom of a lake, assuming his identity.

However, Stefan won’t stay in the lake forever, and we can expect Elena to have a hand in saving him.

“She has this weird feeling something is going on,” Nina Dobrev tells TV Guide.

And even though Elena is now with Damon, Stefan and Elena still share, “this cosmic connection you have with someone that you’ve spent so much time with, and I don’t know if that will go away.”

Dobrev also hints that Stefan will be freed from his underwater prison sooner rather than later. “And when she finds out what he’s been through, it’s not easy for her,” she says.

Do you think Elena will go back to Stefan in The Vampire Diaries season 5? Or will she stay with Damon?

The Vampire Diaries returns Thursday, October 3, airing at 8/7c on The CW. The first episode is titled “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”

Oh hell no! She better not go back to Stefan after all this time and us having to wait for Delena... :nono I really hope we get to see a full season of Damon and Elena having some sort of real relationship that lasts for awhile. Although, if the writers have Stefan fall in love with Katherine (as a human now) this would be a very interesting twist to the story... if you remember back, Damon was always in love with Katherine and Stefan with Elena- and now they've switched roles... :thinking Kinda makes you go hmmm... :lmao

Yeah, but the Stefan that is "falling" for Katherine is not the real Stefan, it is Silas.

'Vampire Diaries' Season 5: Candice Accola Talks of Caroline Forbes Scoop and Possible Love Interest Jesse

"Vampire Diaries" cast member Candice Accola talks about what her character Caroline Forbes will be up to in the upcoming Season 5. According to a Wetpaint Entertainment report, it includes meeting a new guy and possible love interest named Jesse at Whitmore College and having a normal college student life with best friend Elena Gilbert.

When asked what she can share about the relationship between Caroline and Jesse, Candice Accola responded: "Jesse is a boy at college that Caroline and Elena meet and he happens to be very good looking, which is weird for The CW. They're trying something new this year."

The 26-year-old blonde actress further added that there will be a budding friendship between the two "Vampire Diaries" characters and it created speculations that Caroline and Jesse may be more than just friends. However, Ms Accola stated that it is still early to tell in the upcoming new season.

"Right now as we kick off into Season 5 of The Vampire Diaries, with the girls going to college, it actually has a really beautiful start, where they're really just focused on being college freshman. And they're really just looking for that human experience of what it means to go to college for the first time. So, obviously with other storylines, we're going to keep on. There's still supernatural storylines going on within the series," the actress shared.

Aside from cast members giving out spoiler details, writer and producer Caroline Dries dished about a couple of "Vampire Diaries" Season 5 developments in a released Give Me My Remote interview. First, Ms Dries confessed about struggling a little bit when it comes to balancing Damon Salvatore's character now that he is in relationship with Elena Gilbert.

"You don't want to do a cheesy version of that relationship, so it's keeping the Damon edge and darkness. We make sure he still possesses all the Damon-isms and stuff, but he's just happy," Caroline Dries shared.

As for actress Kat Graham's character Bonnie, Dries hints that she will go through an interesting arc in the first few episodes of Season 5. "Rich new mythologies will unfold. Our mythology just keeps opening up and keeps getting richer and richer, I think. So I'm excited about that," the writer and producer revealed.

Lastly, Caroline Dries talked about Stefan Salvatore's fate in the latest season of the hit CW TV series. "Stefan has a really, really rich story in the premiere. He suffers and his stories are heartbreaking," Ms Dries stated.

The Vampire Diaries Season 5 is set to premiere on October 3 at 8 p.m. ET on the CW television network.
