NOW LEAVING DAWSON'S CREEK
Who does Joey choose? Kevin Williamson looks into the future for the show's finale
If you're sick and tired of watching Dawson's Creek heroine Joey rotate between boyfriends Dawson (James Van Der Beek) and Pacey (Joshua Jackson), you're not alone. The teen soap's creator, Kevin Williamson, feels your painso much so that he agreed to pen the series finale with one goal in mind. I want Joey to make a decision, he says.
And Williamson is giving the moody coed (played by Katie Holmes) another half decade to stew on it. The show's two-hour swan song, airing May 14 on WB, takes place five years into the future and centers around the wedding of one of the main characters (he's mum on who's tying the knot). There will be surprises in terms of who show up, who's doing what and who ends up with whom, says Williamson, who left the series at the end of Season 1 to focus on other projects. And the surprises start right in the first frame.
Although he won't comment on rumors that a core Creeker will croak, Williamson does promise that the farewell will silence critics who've long cringed atg the gang's self-aware musings. He teases: I'm going to finally render them speechless. (For the complete Williamson interview, go to
