here is a news from BBC cult:

Network executives have been speculating about Buffy's future, following continued hints that Sarah Michelle Gellar will not renew her contract at the end of Season Seven.

Speaking at the Television Critics winter press tour, CBS President Leslie Moonves (who also oversees Buffy's current US home, UPN) told reporters that he's been having talks with the show's producer, Twentieth Century Television:

"One possibility is [that Sarah] comes back, one possibility is she comes back a couple of times, one possibility is we do a spin-off," he said. "Another possibility is that we have a brand new show on Tuesday at 8 o'clock."

"We've been in discussions with Joss Whedon and 20th Century Fox, and we're talking about a wide range of different possibilities," added Dawn Ostroff, UPN president of entertainment. "We don't have anything to announce yet, but we're talking about a lot of different things."

Some UK news sources have taken this to mean that the show is definitely cancelled, which it isn't. We rang our Buffy contacts at Twentieth Century Fox in Los Angeles, who were unaware of any firm decision to axe the show.

Look's like the ball is firmly in Sarah Michelle Gellar's court on this one.

Anything they did would totally suck without her. If she's going to leave, I vote to just kill the show completely. It would be sad and I would definitely miss it, but it's gotta end sometime.

but still I'll miss it pretty much!

but I kinda have that naive hope that maybe they won't stop it like that...

:fight Alright... I'm very against Dawn the vampire slayer. I'd watch Kennedy the vampire slayer and I'd fight the First itself to get a Faith the vampire slayer series. I think Faith is so cool. I think she has "promising new series" wrote all over her. Although if this crap about "Heroine", FOX's supposedly new drama are true then Ms Dushku is gonna be a bit too busy to be slaying vampires all the way over on UPN. I know some people think Buffy should just end and not do a spin-off... I say to them ARE YOU INSANE? Now Star Trek can end any time! Haven't seen a single episode of any series, yet it seems to keep on trekin'. It's like an annoying energizer bunny of epic proportions. No offense to any Trekkers cause without a doubt you outnumber me.:help On other spin-off news, anyone else hear about Angel possibly ending too? :wtf I don't see much truth in it, but the WB does have a twitchy finger when it comes to dark, dramatic television that involves murder, death, and destruction. Either way you take away both shows and don't give me something back...I'm sure to have gross emotional issues that will probably only go away once I locate an AK-47 and a clocktower.:mad So in conclusion KEEP ANGEL AND BRING ON THE SPIN-OFF...cept not DAWN:nono

hey yall, I'm sorry I've been away for a while... so first of all. thanks for finally welcoming me...:-)

but i have to say that I'm a bit pissed of with SMG... she killed my hopes...now we'll have to cope with a spinnof, but pleeeease joss not Dawn!
well it's now official that the spinnof won't be with faith, so they're talking a lot about a willow spinnof, which I'd be glad to watch...I have to say that I won't be happy with kennedy the vampire slayer...

what is this thing about the potentials... I mean why having bring them... I don't know why joss is boring us with all those useless and so many stupid scared girls. I'm so in a hurry to see what part they're supposed to play in the story!

ok now let's talk about angel. I got happy news for you! Joss said in an interview that angel will definetly have a 5th season. so now everybody stand up dance and sing!

No, don't think it will be Dawn. I think it's going to be Faith...as long as Eliza has no problems with that.

apparently eliza dushku already refused to do it... and she signed for another show...so we're all gonna be despointed. but I think willow could be a good star in a new spinnof. I mean she's the most powerfull person on the show. I don't think it will be spike, 'cause we already got angel... by the way I've just watched salvage and was so happy to see faith again! she's soooo tremendous!

Oh...I was not aware of that about Eliza. Well, that just has a high suck value! Than, I'd go with you, I'd like to see Willow with a show. But do you think Allyson would do it? She's really starting to get into a movie career.

:fight Alright I have no problems with a Willow spin-off, but I think I'd miss the whole "One girl in all the world" deal. I love the slayer lore. I love the slayer flashbacks, the memories Buffy has of past slayers, the watchers, the strength, the skill and the destiny behind it all. A witch just doesn't have any of that. Yes she's probably way more powerful than a slayer, but a Slayer still seems a bit more interesting to me. I'm all for Kennedy to take center stage. Though she's not Buffy and DEFINITELY NOT Faith, I'll look past it and be happy the vampire slaying will continue in a new incarnation. Also I have a few theories about the potentials. I think Joss just threw them in to give us humble viewers some perspective on How the slayer line is being threatened. If we only saw Buffy fighting the good fight while hearing about these deaths I think it would have less of an impact. Another reason is that they're an army. And they way things are going Buffy's gonna need one. Plus they didn't look like a bunch of scared girls in Buffy's back yard. It's been proven time and time again in the series that normal people can slay demons and vampires too. Personally I'm expecting a huge brawl between the potentials and the Bringers (Harbingers), while Buffy and Faith take on the First in the finale.Guess we'll see in the next few months.

I don't agree with You I think the only slayer to deal with evil and demons should be faith. she's the only one who could akeit interesting to me. she has a dark past and would have to deal with her issues. but I think kennedy the vampire slayer will be boring like hell. it will only be a repeating of buffy. and I think joss wouldn't be interesting in doin' that. he sais if SMG leaves the show, BTVS would go with her. so a centric kennedy spinnof or a slayer centric spinnof is dead when eliza refused it. I really have the feeling it's gonna be willow. I mean she's the most powerful caracter, has huge issues with her destroying the world thing. the only caracter that would also be interesting would have been spike. but we already got another vampire with a soul. James marsters said in a interview that spike and buffy will be together at the end. but he said that it won't be hat we expect. so I can't figure now if he's gonna even be in a spinnof. but I sooooo hope so.

what I think about the potential is that Joss has bigger plan for them than just beeing an rmy ready to die for the cause. if not I don't understand why the first is wanting to kill the so much. I think they're really important in the plan, but i can't understand yet. I'll let you know when I find out.

hey and talking about alyson's movie career, do you think that a small part in american crap pie 3 is really what can be called a movie career...?

:fight Don't get me wrong, I'd watch a Willow spin-off. I think the character could really work, but my biggest concern is that Willow doesn't have a responsibility to fight all this evil. She mostly did it because Buffy was her friend and she didn't want her to die. Assuming the Hellmouth is closed for good in the finale, I just don't see Willow relocating to another town in trouble. And who in their right mind would choose Kennedy over Faith? Nobody. The only reason I'd jump on Kennedy's bandwagon is because she's better than the Dawn alternative and about the only one of the potentials I see surviving the finale. Another point is Willow and Kennedy have a thing... so it's possible they both might carry over into the spin off. The first must know something we don't about killing off the potentials. Maybe if it manages to take out certain potential slayers chosen for that generation the power may just dissolve. I honestly haven't a clue... just a theory...one of many. Also I don't see the potentials being much else besides an army, but we'll see. A lot can happen in 6 episodes...especially in the Buffyverse.:popcorn

I agree with you about willow and kennedy, except if kennedy dies in the final, she'll have to be in a willow spin-off. but maybe the willow spin of won't be about saving the world...because of a mission, but in memory of her friend buffy. and maybe because that's the only thing she can do... I mean she's been doin'it for 7 years... so I don't think that if buffy's gone she'll stop. but a kennedy spin-off would sucks!

there's one thing about the potential that I don't get. remember what the guys told buffy when she went back in time in get it done. they said she was the last slayer. that leads me to 2 questions: what about faith? and if buffy is the last one, what's the point with the potentials, they'll never be activated if we believe in their theory. so once again why is the first wanting to kill them so much. if the oracle (remember he spoke to anya and giles) and the creators of the slayer said right, the first don't have to be afraid of them. they can do nothing against the first. maybe I'm torturing my mind about them too much...but I really can't wait to see what's gonna happen to them.

:fight I didn't think those primative watcher's said Buffy was the last "Slayer". They only said she was the Hellmouth's last guardian. I took that as indicating the Hellmouth would be closing for good. I think the idea of Willow carrying on to honor Buffy would work, but it seems like she'd only do that if Buffy was to die. And it doesn't look like Buffy's gonna be dying again anytime soon...assuming team Whedon isn't throwing up a smoke screen during each interview, just so we humble viewers will in be surprised when Buffy does indeed die in the end. I will admit that I'm not as excited about Kennedy being the front runner as I WAS when I heard all the Faith spin off rumors, but I'd take her over Dawn any day. And I think the biggest issue I'll end up having with A Willow spin-off is that she just doesn't seem like a leader. I mean Buffy had to make life and death decisions about every episode and Willow just doesn't seem capable of it. She's a great character and I love the hell out of her, but I just can't see her leading the future line of scoobies into battle. But to coin a popular phrase over at the WB : "Sometimes people can surprise you.":ohno

I've been rewatching "get it done to make sure"...and you're right they just spoke of the hellmouth. and the oracle in showtime didn't say anything about it... I think I made my own fantasy...oops

but the oracle said somethin important .the first is here because of buffy. I mean because she's leaving. well he didn't say it exactly but that was what giles understood in it.

and he also says that the first can not be killed. so that he'll have to get back in the hellmouth and someone will have to keep it shut.

but I think we haven't thought about everything could happen. what if the first wins at the end...so the opening of the helmouth wouldn't be the big issue. that could lead to a very interesting spinn-of. ok it's not the greatest end of all, but what a big surprise! i don't think this will happen, but that would have been cool.

I agree with what you say about willow, she doesn't look like a leader now, but I'm sure they'll find a way to make her be. and maybe she'll show some skills till the end of the series. let's forget about willow fighting evil in memory of her friend. that sounds bullshit! I think she'll be doin'it 'cause that became her life...

that's funny you talk about joss interviews because I've been thinking that he may be playin' with us. well I can't wait to find out!

I LOVE THAT IDEA! I think it would be so cool if the Hellmouth exploded and all the old ones returned and took back Sunnydale and everyone had to flee the town and then that's it for Buffy...which allows the new heroine (assuming the new series revolves around another girl/woman) to attempt a take back of Sunnydale all through the first season... or the course of several seasons. It just seems like Buffy is operating on a much broader scale this season. The battles coming up seem larger and more important than those of past years. I really hope The First takes a physical manifestation at some point, cause I seriously wanna see Buffy kick the crap out of it. Though I'm only expecting it to just be defeated and then slink back into the shadows. The Oracle said "It always will be" and usually those wacky oracles get it right. Anyone think the Master, Glory, Adam

Í love it too! but I don't think that's what gonna happen.'cause this would mean buffy has to die not to be in the spin-off and I don't think joss want to do that or he will have to find a huge excuse fo her to quit. have you heard that the title of the last episode (ever :-( )is "chosen"? I think that faith is goin' to die so a SIT will be chosen...but I really wouldn't like to have another slayer centric series. I mean BTVS is so perfect that I don't want to be desapointed in kennedy the vampire slayer. please joss choose willow.I've read an interview of alyson saying that she would be interested in a spin-off as long as joss is involved in it. and joss really seams to be doin'a spin-off...soooooo I really think it's gonna be willow. and i think spike will be in it. he has to be ! I mean he's the most interesting character of the show.

I have to say...if they do a spin-off of BTVS...James Marsters better be in it! If he is...I will watch! ;) The man is amazing. And personally, I'd like to see Willow have her own show. I'm kind of with you pymfao. BTVS has been a great show. Once it's gone, let it be. Don't ruin it by having Dawn be the slayer or even Kennedy. Just let the slayer concept rest. If anything, Joss can bring that up on Angel. Personally, and I don't see this happening, but I would really like to see Buffy and Angel have one last moment together before she's gone. Being on seperate networks makes that hard, but...I don't know. I'd like to see it. Granted, I LOVE Buffy and Spike together. But my heart will always hold a soft spot for Buffy and Angel.

:fight Ok saw a few glimpses of Alyson Hannigan from her Angel appearance next week in tonight's trailer...and I take back everything I said about her not being a leader. She was even referred to as a "champion." She seemed very right on her own facing down the big bad. After seeing just those few scenes, I'm feeling a whole lot better about Willow taking the reigns and becoming the new protector of the night after Buffy. I'm kinda hoping Amy resurfaces if Willow spins off. She's the perfect nemesis for Willow. Kinda like Faith WAS to Buffy. TTFN.
