FACTS
(stuff that JK has told us from various interviews and chats)
- In book five, we go into a whole new area, physically, an area you've never seen before, a magical world
- Book five will be scary. Harry finds out a lot of things he hasn't stumbled across so far.
- In book five (Harry) has to examine exactly what death means, in even closer ways.
- We will see Mr. Weasley's car, Aragog, Dobby and the Dementors again.
- The Dursleys are in the next book, and there's stuff coming with them that people might not expect.
- During an interview, when JKR was asked in which Hogwarts room she'd like to be for 1 hour, she said it would be a room in which Harry has been before, but doesn't know its importance. Yet.
- It's very important in the plot that Harry has his mother's eyes, and that her wand was very good for charms.
- During an interview for Kids BBC, Victor Greensteet (reporter) asked Rowling if Harry would have a dragon for a pet. This is what she replied: "You can't tame a dragon, no matter what Hagrid thinks. It's simply impossible. So no. He has more common sense. He MAY have a different pet in the future, but for now, I won't say anything else".
- In the same interview for Kids BBC, the reporter asked J. K. if Harry had ever used the internet, and this is what she had to say: "No. They (the Dursleys) won't let him go near Dudley's computer, and Dudley is the only one who has a computer. They hit him if he gets too near to the keyboard. So the answer would be No. I use it a lot, but Harry doesn't. Wizards don't really need to go on the web. They have an even better way to find out what's happening in the outside world, which I think is a lot more fun than the Internet, but I'm going to keep quiet on this one."
- The choice between what's right and what's easy will be a pillar of the plot in Harry's last 3 years.
- The "Arabella Figg" Dumbledore refers to at the end of book four is indeed the same - Mrs. Figg that takes care of Harry for the Dursleys in book one.
- There will be a new sorting hat song.
- You'll be seeing Mrs. (Arabella) Figg in book five, and you'll find out all about her.
- Harry's parents' profession will be a big part of the plot.
- Harry will see the real 'Mad-Eye' Moody in book five.
- We will find out why Voldemort killed Lily and James Potter.
- Something HUGE will be revealed about Lily Potter.
- There will be a female Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher (*coughMRSFIGGcough*)
- We'll see Lupin in Book Five. Yes, we will see a lot of old characters in Book Five.
- Ginny Weasley will play more of a role in book five.
- One of the main characters, one of Harry's "fans" will die (not Ron or Hermione though). The death will be "horrible to write."
THEORIES
(as in, not from the mouth of JK and possibly not true - or are they? *wink*)
The "Horrible to Write" Death of Book 5
- Hagrid? J.K. Rowling said that one of Harry's "fans" would die AND, during Harry Potter Hour on the Rosie O'Donnell show Rosie asked Richard Harris (Dumbledore) if he was signed up for all seven movies and he said yes, when she asked Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) he replied, "sort of".
- What about Colin Creevey? I'm sure when JKR said that it would be one of Harry's "fans" the name that popped in to most of your heads is Colin Creevy. However, Harry never had a very close relationship to Colin; he was never a major character and if he died it would be like Cedric, nothing more.
- Ginny is also a fan of Harry's and definitely would be a horrible death to write, but other then that there aren't really any supporting facts that Ginny might die. She's already had one brush with death, and, like Colin, she seems like too obvious of a choice. JKR likes to suprise us.
- Who is a bigger Harry Potter fan than Dobby? He practically god-worships Harry. He tries to save Harry's life numerous times and helps him in the Triwizard Tournament. After Harry returns the favor and sets Dobby free, he is even more in love with Harry. Dobby tells the other house elfs of Harry's greatness and even protects Harry when Lucius Malfoy attacks him at the end of the second book. Come on, who doesn't love Dobby? Wouldn't it be "really hard" to write about his death?
- Mrs. Weasley. Let's face it, she's become Harry's surrogate mother, and is definately a "fan." On an episode of "Biography" featuring J.K. Rowling, she specifically stated that one event in her own personal life that significantly changed the overall plot of the books was her own mother's death. It makes sense. If Mrs. Weasly died J.K. would in fact be writing the death of her own mother for the world, hence it being "horrible to write." Ginny would be like Rowling -- a girl growing up without a mother. This would set her up to be a strong female role and might help Harry to "notice" Ginny for the first time.
The Heir of Godric Gryffindor
Harry could be the heir of Godric Gryffindor. Here's why this is possible:
- When Harry finally finds the right wand for him at Ollivander's, the wand emits red and gold sparks - Gryffindor colors!
- We know that Harry's parents lived at Godric's Hollow.
- Near the end of book 2, when Harry pulls the sword out of the sorting hat, it had the words "Godric Gryffindor" engraved on the handle. Later on, Dumbledore says to Harry, "Only a true Gryffindor could have done that."
- Harry's birthday is July 31st, which falls under astrological sign of Leo the Lion. The Lion is the Gryffindor house mascot.
The New Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher
- Arabella Figg might be the new DADA (Defense Against the Dark Arts) teacher. J.K. Rowling said that we would "learn all about her in book five" and that she would "play more of a role in book five". JKR also said that there would be a female DADA teacher.
- At the end of book four Fleur Delacour said to Harry that she would try to get a job at Hogwarts (to improve her English)...could she be the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher? Or maybe the position as another Hogwarts teacher (or helper?).
The Wand Core Theorum
Supposedly no one knows why You-Know-You couldn't kill Harry; well, if you read book 4 carefully, when Dumbledore was explaining to Sirius about Priori Incantatum, Dumbledore says that when two "brother" wands meet they will not function properly against each other, like You-Know-Who and Harry when they dueled. Well, the wand chooses the wizard, so Harry was destined for the wand with You-Know-You's same pheonix feather, so You-Know-Who's curse wouldn't function properly, just like Priori Incantatum, except Harry didn't have a wand, so the curse would backfire instead of bringing out the Dark Lord's previous curses. *eep*
Harry's Scar
Harry's scar is connected with Voldemort, Dumbledore especially thinks so but has anyone considered the possibility that this connection is only necessary until Voldemort is vanquished? So therefore, if Voldemort is defeated in the 7th book the scar may disappear. And the last line of the 7th book is scar so couldn't it go something long the lines of, (long paraggraph summing up the finalities of Harry's adventure his successful completion of hogwarts, etc.) "He realized that finally Voldemort was gone for good and so was his scar."
POSSIBLE HP COUPLES
Ron and Hermione
At the Yule Ball, Ron was openly jealous that Hermione went with Krum. However, even though it is very easy to figure out that Ron likes Hermione, Hermione's thought's are better hidden - she hasn't shown interest in any guys yet besides Lockhart. But that was just a childish crush.
Rowling answered: "Yes, something's "going on," but Ron doesn't realize it yet. Typical boy."So it's pretty much a sure thing that Ron likes Hermione - does she feel the same about him? She did show signs of jealousy when Fleur kissed Ron on the cheeks, and before the Yule Ball she said to Ron, "ask me first next time and not as a last resort!" This indicates she may have feelings for him, but she won't wait around forever. Maybe she is subtely warning him that he needs to come clean with his feelings, or he will miss out on her feelings for him.
Harry and Hermione
The kiss on the cheek at the end of book 4Some Harry/Hermione shippers believe that is proof that Hermione likes Harry; Harry noticed that she had never done that before. That could be JKR foreshadowing future events.Others argue that the kiss on the cheek was proof that Hermione is not interested in Harry in that way. Hermione is very insecure socially, she is not the type of girl that would make a pass at a boy. Maybe she is so comfortable with their friendship that she knew he would not take the kiss the wrong way.
The hug at the end of 2nd movie
In an interview with IGN Filmforce, JK Rowling said:
"Key things happen in book 2. No one knows how important those things are...yet. There is a lot in [the movie], and I know how difficult it was to get it all in there without drawing too much attention to the clues."When Hermione was in the hospital wing, Harry spent a good amount of time by her bed stroking her hand affectionately and looking at her. Clue? Near the end of the second film Hermione runs through the great hall and wraps her arms around Harry in a hug. She then turns to Ron, and they start to move in for a hug but then they step back awkwardly and shake hands. There are a couple ways we can interpret this:
1) The hug indicates that she is hinting of of Harry/Hermione romance.
2) Hermione gives Harry a "friend hug," but Ron and Hermione chicken out because they have a little thing for each so it was too awkward.
Harry and Cho
Harry is clearly attracted to Cho, but Cho doesn't appear to be giving off the right signs for this to turn in to a budding romance. Cho is nice to Harry, but that's where it ends, she's nice...polite. Not flirtatious - nice. Cho is still grieving over Cedric anyway. Harry will get over Cho. It should also be noted that JKR hasn't mentioned anything about Cho playing a more significant role in future books, like she has with other characters (Ginny for example). Although, a Cho/Harry fan could argue that Cho did blush when Harry asked her to the Yule Ball.
(psh...I don't like Cho.)
Harry and Ginny
Ginny is infatuated with Harry, but so far Harry hasn't shown any signs of interest in Ginny. Maybe Harry hasn't really noticed her yet because she is Ron's little sister. Ginny will mature, and maybe Harry will begin to notice her more in book 5. JKR did say that "Ginny Weasley would play more of a role in book 5."
There is no real canon proof of this, but people can compare Ginny to Lily-looks wise. Both have red hair, and even the actors from the movies look similar. Harry looks exactly like his father. Ginny looks like his mother. Maybe it's history repeating itself.
Hermione and Krum
Krum obviously cares for Hermione, and I think she was flattered when he asked her to the ball. She might even have gone with Krum to make Ron a little jealous. Krum needs to step aside and make-way for another guy for Hermione because he is not her type, especially with him being 4 years older then her. Krum and Hermione won't have much of a future together.
Hermione and Draco
Not a very good possibility, but here are two good points
1) The most obvious theory is the love-hate thing they have going on. Draco seems to love to torture Hermione more that the rest of the wonder-trio. The mudblood thing only works with her and is probably the worst insult any of the trio get. Draco is like that little boy in elementary school who pulled your pig-tails, Draco does like Hermione.
2) The second movie there were extremely subtle things such as when McGonagall was explaining the legend to the class the camera showed specific glances between the two. JKR said that there were clues that were so subtle you wouldn't even think of them as a clue. Although, those glances could be because they hatred they have for each other.Draco warns the trio several times to keep Hermione away from the Death Eaters at the World Cup, albeit in an insulting way. He also had nothing bad to say about Hermione at the Yule Ball, which is unlike him. Attraction, maybe?
(side note: this is weird, but I am cheering for this one!?!? am I losing my mind...? Does anyone else see this as cute?)
Fred and Angelina
When Fred asked her to the Yule Ball she said something like, "Yes, alright then. And turned back to Alicia and carried on chatting with a bit of a grin on her face." Then, at the Yule Ball, it said they were dancing away so exuberantly people were backing away in fear of an inujury. *yay for fred!*
