From our friend Freelancer and The Safe House:
Update 01/17/03...by Souris
Original: Thanks to Tracy and MediaLife for the heads-up.
Christian Slater is quite the hot guest star these days (in both senses of the word). Coming off a stint at the White House on NBC's "The West Wing," the former heartthrob will play a kidnapped scientist during two February sweeps episodes of ABC's "Alias."
VHo note: Guestimating from the spoilers below, he'll probably play Caplan.
Update 01/17/03...by Souris
Original: Thanks to Freelancer.
Sydney goes to see Irina and tells her she's graduating today -- and she's thinking of leaving the CIA. This would mean she'd lose clearance to see Irina again. Irina wants her to leave the CIA and says she won't agree to see Sydney anymore if she doesn't leave. Irina tells her to take care of herself, and Sydney leaves; Irina cries. Later, Sydney puts on her graduation gown and goes out to meet Will and Francie.
Sloane is holding a man named Caplan prisoner in a warehouse. Caplan hates him and says he'll help Sloane with the Rambaldi manuscript if he lets his family go. Sloane plays a tape of (apparently) Caplan's wife saying to do whatever they want or they'll hurt Aaron. Sloane wants Caplan to put together a device whose pieces are all around them. Caplan will need a device he's been working on that measures magnetic fields in space, but it hasn't cleared patent and the Polytechnic has it locked up.
Sloane talks to Emily on the phone at the warehouse, lying that he's looking at a house he's buying for her. Sark is there and wonders what will happen when she's ready to move into that Tuscan villa. Sloane says he bought it six months ago. Sark says he's contacted their point-man who's assembling the team, but he questions Sloane's decision to lead the team himself, given his "notoriety." Sloane says he won't let anyone else take the final steps of his 30-year odyssey.
At the CIA rotunda, Syd, Vaughn, Jack & Kendall study Sloane's flight plan that they got from the plane's data recorder.
Sydney and Vaughn enter a bar to meet someone named Vasilly. Sydney starts racking balls on a pool table while Vaughn sits next to Vasilly. They speak in French. Vaughn says he's looking for information, and he's not really French mafia, he's CIA. Syd plays pool and keeps an eye on the bartender as Vaughn and Vassily talk. Vaughn brings out pictures of Sloane and Sark and says they believe one of those men approached Vassily recently to hire some of his contacts. Vassily offers Vaughn a not-nice suggestion about what he can do. Action!Vaughn slams Vassily's head on the bar and breaks his nose, then pours scotch over his head and threatens to set it afire with Vassily's lighter unless Vassily tells him what he knows. Vassily says he knows where the woman and child are -- they're in the next room. Syd and Vaughn exchange a shocked look.

Thanks to Freelancer and the Alias Uncovered Forums: We get a touching scene between Irina and Sydney. Sydney is going to graduate that day and has informed her mother that she is thinking about leaving the CIA. Which means...she won't be able to see Irina any longer. Irinia realizes this and gets all cold, to help Sydney make the decision she needs to make easier. She doesn't want her to stay in the CIA just to see a mother who hasn't been there for her for the last 20 years. We get more Action-Vaughn! And more French-speaking Vaughn! ![:jump](https://foreverdreaming.org/images/smilies/blinkie.gif)

TVGuide.com.
Christian Slater begins a two-part appearance just as Syd (Jennifer Garner) begins to plan her disappearance from the CIA. With the Alliance in ruins and Sloane on the run, the stage is set for Syd to leave her spy life. But then a brilliant mathematician (Slater) and his family are abducted, and it becomes ominously clear that someone from SD-6 is back in action. So it's up to Syd and Vaughn to locate the missing man, who holds the key to turning an ancient manuscript into a very modern weapon of mass destruction. Meanwhile, Dixon (Carl Lumbly) worries about the possible end of his marriage. Diane: Yvonne Farrow. Kendall: Terry O'Quinn.

From Ain't It Cool News:
Herc Gives The Real Post-SuperSunday ALIAS 4 Stars!
Alias 2.15 FAQ
What?s it called? ?A Free Agent.?
Who?s responsible? Teleplay is credited to Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman-Counter (?Cipher,? ?Double Agent?).
What does TV Guide say?
What is Herc?s headline talking about? Last Sunday?s ?Double Agent? apparently was originally intended to air before the five-star Superbowl episode ?Phase One.? Which is why we still don?t really know what?s become of Marshall, Dixon, Sloane, Irina, Francie or Will since SD-6 was dissolved.
? ? turning an ancient manuscript into a very modern weapon of mass destruction? Could they be talking about the work of 14th century seer Milo Rambaldi? Yep. The same guy who wrote this about Syd?s mom (or maybe Syd?s future daughter?): ?This woman here depicted will possess unseen marks, signs that she will be the one to bring forth my works. Bind them with fury. A burning anger, unless prevented. At vulgar cost, this woman will render the greatest power unto utter desolation.?
The big news? Syd and Sloane have their ?first honest conversation.? And he says he can forgive her.
But now that SD-6 and the Alliance have been vanquished, has Syd quit the CIA and quietly returned to her graduate studies? Actually, it?s revealed that, off-camera, Syd already earned her post-grad degree. In fact, the episode begins on her graduation day.
Hubba what? Vaughn, as he nakedly canoodles his young Syd, shares your astonishment. ?What? he coos. ?When the hell did you have time to take a class this year? Anyway, kiss those ?Felicity?-esque classroom scenes buh-bye.
So is the freshly-degreed Syd really leaving the CIA? ?If you leave this agency, you forfeit the clearance to see your mother,? Kendall sternly advises her.
So Syd?s staying with the CIA? ?If you make this decision about me, you're a fool,? mom Irina tells Syd. ?In fact, if you decide to stay, I won't agree to see you anymore.?
So Syd?s leaving the CIA? ?Knowing that I'm alive is going to tempt you to come after me,? Sloane tells Syd. ?Don't.?
How is the mathematician?s abduction tied to SD-6 personnnel? Sark does the kidnapping.
For their treason, are Marcus Dixon and Marshall Flinkman stripped, tied to steel posts and whipped? Even as, elsewhere, Syd and Vaughn enjoy the hot hot sex? ?I wanted to be the one to come in and tell you officially that you've been cleared,? Syd tells the captured Dixon. ?The CIA has concluded that you had no knowledge of what was really going on at SD-6. They want to offer you a place here.?
So at episode?s end, are Dixon and Syd friends again? No.
So at episode?s end, has Dixon accepted the offer to work for the CIA? No.
But he?s going to, right? To do so, Dixon will have to give something up that?s very very important to him.
Does Dixon?s wife find out her husband is a superspy? She does.
What about Marshall? Marshall is an entirely different story. ?Marshall. I'm Michael Vaughn. Welcome to the CIA.?
What?s going on with Francie? Is she really Syd?s old nemesis Anna Espinoza? Did the real Francie kill her clone because she?s been a superspy all along? No info on any of this, though Syd obvious continues to sense something amiss with her friend.
Are ?Francie? and Will making out all the time now? Have they traded fluids? They don?t even stand very close to each other this week. You?d never know there was a romance. Maybe there isn?t one.
Did Sloane make off with invaluable Rambaldi artifacts before he fled SD-6? ?All Alliance facilities have been raided, yet we haven't found a single Rambaldi artifact,? notes Jack. ?If Sloane was expecting our raid, he could have had everything moved to a secure location. He must be using Caplan [the mathematician] to help him assemble a Rambaldi device.?
What else is TV Guide not telling us? ?I'm approaching the finish line of a 30-year odyssey,? Sloane confides to Sark.
Hey, now that SD-6 is no more, can the CIA confirm that Will?s not a recovering addict? Can he return to reporting for a major metropolitan newspaper? Will doesn?t seem too worried about it this week.
What?s good? All the post-SD-6 material. Kendall?s manipulations. Dixon?s terrible dilemma. The robot eye. The ?Raiders? homage. The Hives. Marshall generally, but particularly his gloating to his fellow CIA techs and his chemistry with the increasingly important Kendall.
What?s not so good? Zero Weiss.
How does it end, spoiler-boy? Syd enjoys a face-to-face with a former employer.
Herc?s rating for ?Alias? 2.15?~ ****

Hey guys ... I'm new here but I'm a huge Alias fan and hopefully I'll fit in I loved this weeks ep and it's going to be rough w/o an ep this Sunday about Free Agent .. I was totally surprised by Sloane's call .. this guy supposedly has manipulated everybody don't you think that he'd know the effect his call would have on Syd? so that makes me wonder .. is he manipulating her again ... urging her to chase him :shrug Or I could just be overly paranoid ![:grin](https://foreverdreaming.org/images/smilies/grin_anim.gif)
