Who's the TV star who just was cast as Jennifer Lopez's husband in the new movie Monster-in-Law?
It's Michael Vartan of Alias. The film, incidentally, will mark Jane Fonda's return to the screen.

From: About.Com and Alias Media: 88 episodes of "Alias?" That's amazing. And new viewers find it every year. Some people are just catching onto it in the fourth year. Exactly. I think that one of the real appeals of the show is, you know, the cast. You look at people like Victor Garber and Ron Rifkin, these incredible actors from Broadway. And Jennifer, obviously. And it's set in a very sleek and sexy kind of spy atmosphere. And then you've got all these great stunts. But you also have characters that I think are well-rounded and the scenes between them are interesting. And you know, obviously we take artistic license because it's not at all the way the CIA operates. If it was, we'd all be dead (laughing). I like to compare it to it's almost like a James Bond comic book in a way. It's just fun. If you're a freak and you want to get into who is chasing who and whose father's niece's uncle's and nephew's is
All that craziness, you can. Or you can just watch it as an hour of television. But I think the main appeal of the show, especially in the first couple of seasons, was it was such an amazing female role. Such a great strong role for a woman. There weren't many out there at the time and I think it sort of just blew up because of that. Romance-wise, do you see them [Sydney and Vaughn] ultimately getting back together? Well, they were together once. Again, the writers are pretty good at sensing the pulse of what the fans want. Not that they necessarily write for the fans, but ultimately they do because they're the people who watch. I don't know. I don't know what's going to happen. They don't really tell us. I don't ask them. Would you personally like to see them get back together? I think it's more fun to play the forbidden fruit. I can't believe I just said that (laughing). It's sexier and it's more fun. If they get together then great because they've done it before. If they don't
I mean obviously I think those two characters are either going to be on their way to getting together or getting together. That's kind of their destiny - it seems to be. But they're very good at switching things around on Alias. As soon as you get comfortable with something then boom, they just turn the tables. They pull the rug out from under you. Exactly. What's your favorite episode? I still love the pilot. That initial episode was, I think, one of the best hours of television I've ever seen.
The pilot was so great and she was so amazing in it, it really was something new. I'd never really seen a show like that before. I was only in it for 10 lines at the end which is probably why it was so good. No, I think the pilot was my favorite. We were all so excited to be part of it and we all just had such high hopes for it and we loved it. Four years later we're still plugging away, which is awesome. Your first is always that one unforgettable kind of feeling and it was so damn good. Do you want to address the Jennifer Garner pregnancy rumor? No. Only because it is a rumor. Does it sour you on doing interviews when all you're asked about is rumors? No, not me. I honestly couldn't care less what people say about me, especially in this business that is based on being judged and rejected. You try and live your life as normally as possible and if someone invents a rumor that I have two vaginas, so be it. There's nothing I can do about it. Now that'd be an interesting rumor. I give you permission to start that today! Thank you, thank you. Not one but two. If Alias were to end soon, would you consider doing a TV series again? Sure. I've learned in this business especially never to say never. I would rather do movies because I'm very lazy and the hours are much easier. But you know, at the end of the day it really comes down to the quality of what you're doing. Especially these days television has gotten so good. I mean, some of the best acting and best work is being done on television. Shows like The West Wing and 24. It's amazing. They're better than most movies. And it doesn't have that stigma anymore of, Oh, that's a TV actor. We can't put him in a movie. So that certainly helped the cross over. Yeah, I mean, I'm talking to you right now because I'm on the TV show and I would certainly consider it again if it was the right part.

Michael's Newsweek Q&A from Alias Media"It isn't enough that Michael Vartan plays second fiddle to Jennifer Garner every week on "Alias". In the film "Monster in Law" he's caught between two divas: Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez. Vartan spilled the beans to NEWSWEEK's Marc Peyser: Bonjour. Hello. Aren't you impressed by my accent? That was very good. Do you hate when interviewers get excited that you're French?" The funny thing is I'm actually a Polish Jew whoo happens to be born in France. My mom is Polish and my dad is Bulgarian. I don't have an ounce of French blood. But I work it. How did you come to the United States? I was 17 and had dropped out of high school, and there was a thing called mandatory military service in France, so I thought that would be a good time to move in with my mom in California. There were six or seven years where I wasn't allowed back into France or I would have been arrested by the military police. That was kind of exciting. Wait- you dropped out of high school? I don't condone it. Children, stay in school. But you got your GED, right? I did not. Lazy and a deserted. I'm a real catch Enough about you. Is Jennifer Garner pregnant? I don't know. I heard it for the first time yesterday on a talk show. She's in Canada and I'm in New York, and we haven't spoken. How about J.Lo and Jane- who's the bigger diva? No one believes me, but I was so delighted at how incredibly nice they were. C'mon. Really? I was so surprised, only because of all the crap you hear about people. It could easily have been a complete power trip, and it wasn't at all. Who as the bigger posse? Jennifer does. It's not that big, but it's bigger than Jane's.

Alias Fans Fight for Vartanby Wenn Fans of hit TV series Alias have launched a campaign to save Michael Vartan's character, even though producers have failed to confirm they're killing him off. Vartan, who plays his former girlfriend Jennifer Garner's on-screen lover Michael Vaughn on the show, reportedly shot his final scenes last week, according to the New York Post. Insiders claim Vaughn will be killed off in the upcoming series, which will also see pregnant Garner coping with impending motherhood both in real life and on the crime drama. The news has prompted some fans to launch www.mvcampaign.com, which has been set up to stop any potential Vartan departure. In a posting on the fansite, one devotee states, "Many of us feel that if this were to occur, it would be showing the show, the viewers, and Mr. Vartan a huge lack of both respect and loyalty. "We have decided to take action and do something to express our feelings." From: Hollywood.com

Michael Vartan news: here's why you should always get a signatureEveryone's wondering, "Is Vaughn really dead?" and "Why did Michael Vartan leave Alias?" and "Who the hell is the frozen dude in the box?" Well, Ausiello at TV Guide has some (possible) answers. It went like this: after his breakup with Jennifer Garner, he wanted to leave the show, and told producers maybe Vaughn could die on assignment. They said no, you have a contract. Then this season producers wanted to give the show a boost and remembered that Vartan wanted to be killed off so they wrote the current story. By this time Vartan had changed his mind and wanted to stay, but the producers already had the story in motion. They always planned to have Vartan come back for a few episodes...but they never got Vartan to sign that contract! Luckily, negotiations are continuing...stay tuned... (And if you're wondering if the popsicle in the box is Vaughn, Ausiello says "that would be a little too obvious, don't you think?" - which you can take any way you like. Personally, I think it's Rambaldi in the box - a little too sci-fi, but it's probably the last season of the show, so why not go out with a big bang and end the Rambaldi story once and for all?) Cooper and Vartan, sittin' in a tree. K-I-T-C-H-E-NOK, so it doesn't rhyme, and barely makes sense. But I haven't had my caffeine yet today. FOX says that ex-Alias star Michael Vartan (oh, how it hurts to type "ex-Alias star") will guest star on Kitchen Confidential, the sitcom headed by another Alias alum, Bradley Cooper! This is all a crossover, right? Will is in the witness protection program. Maybe his new name (his ALIAS) is Jack Bourdain, and he's a cook in New York now. Vaughn wasn't really killed off, he's in the witness protection program and will be going to New York to work in the same restaurant as Will. Eventually, they'll both be found out by a customer who comes into the restaurant and they'll have to contact Sydney for help. All on very special crossover episodes of Alias and Kitchen Confidential during sweeps period. From: TV Squad

Michael Vartan, 37 Signs of readiness: "He's handsome, and at that age again where he might start thinking about being in a serious relationship, especially since his most serious ex (Jennifer Garner) is now having a baby and in the spotlight every day. POSSIBLE SPOILER: It sure looked like Michael Vartan's character was killed in "Alias" shocking season opener. But since when does anyone on this show actually die? "If things go according to plan, he'll be back this season," reveals exec producer Jeff Pinkner. "We're writing an episode right now that Vaughn is in, and we have more planned." Vaughn could return as soon as December, before the ABC spy series goes on hiatus for Jennifer Garner's maternity leave. Vartan's manager confirms that producers have asked the actor to return for up to three episodes, though so far no deal has been signed. Or has it? From: TV Guide

Vartan, Cooper Reunite on 'Kitchen Confidential'Michael Vartan's "Alias" character didn't fare so well in Thursday night's season premiere, but the actor will resurface soon with one of his former co-stars. FOX says Vartan will guest-star on a forthcoming episode of its freshman comedy "Kitchen Confidential," which stars his former "Alias" castmate Bradley Cooper. The episode begins shooting next week; an airdate hasn't been set. Vartan, a native of France, will play an arrogant French chef named Michel who copies Jack's (Cooper) menu at his own restaurant and sets out to steal Mimi (Bonnie Somerville) as well. His actions spark a nasty feud between the crew at Jack's Nolita and Michel's bistro. (WARNING: We're about to discuss plot points from the season premiere of "Alias." If you haven't watched it yet, you might want to click away.) Michael Vaughn, the CIA agent Vartan plays on "Alias," was gunned down by a rogue agent in Thursday's (Sept. 29) season premiere. The show's producers have said Vartan is still part of the "Alias" family, and while it's not unprecedented for characters to return from the dead, he isn't set to return in the near future. Vartan co-starred in the feature film "Monster-in-Law" earlier this year and has also appeared in "One Hour Photo," "Never Been Kissed" and "The Myth of Fingerprints." In addition to "Alias," his TV credits include the miniseries "The Mists of Avalon" and guest spots on "Friends" and "Ally McBeal." From: Zap2It

TV Gal Chooses the French Over FOXBy Amy Amatangelo LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Sigh. Oh, mon dieu. Okay, listen up mon petit chou FOX, it is -- how do you say? -- on. You want a fight. Bring. It. On. You think I can't give your entire network the silent treatment? Well now it's like you double-dared me. In today's column I was going to rave about Michael Vartan's guest appearance as a French chef on "Kitchen Confidential." It is hilarious. Vartan sports a fetching French accent and Bradley Cooper has a great line about "It's like we worked together before." Add in the moment where you can almost catch Vartan about to crack up and it's simply a perfect episode. But will you get to see it this Monday? In any language the answer is "no." FOX abruptly pulled both "Arrested Development" and "Kitchen Confidential" from the schedule in favor of airing repeats of "Prison Break" in that time slot. Allegedly, both series will return on Dec. 5 but who can be optimistic at this point? Both show's episode orders have been cut to 13 for the season which does not bode well -- at all. So, while I'm thoroughly grumpy, why not talk about my picks for the worst storylines of the season. The Rest of the Article can be found HERE
