Garner to be pregnant on Alias too

Good news for Alias fans: the show will be back for a full season and Jennifer Garner will be in every episode. And thankfully, it won't be one of those situations where the character has to hold a giant box in front of them or stand behind a big potted plant the whole time, trying to hide a real-life pregnancy that the character shouldn't have. J.J. Abrams and company are writing Garner's pregnancy into the show! Is it Vaughn's? Rambaldi's? Marshall's? Stay tuned...

'Alias' Will Embrace Garner Pregnancy
By Brill Bundy
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) While he stops short of confirming that star Jennifer Garner's real-life pregnancy will result in a show gestation, ABC Entertainment President will say that show creator JJ Abrams is definitely rising to the creative challenge.
"I love the fact that he's embracing it. I think it would be a mistake to hide it."

To this end, ABC's spy drama heroine will get a new, younger, yet-to-be-cast agent to mentor. McPherson assures critics and audiences that the fresh recruit will allow for "sex appeal, if you will, in different places" as Garner herself finds running down long corridors more cumbersome and wearing skimpy outfits less than appealing.

Abrams himself is finding more and more demands on his attention as "Alias" enters its fifth season, hit drama "Lost" goes into its sophomore year, he readies "What About Brian?" for a midseason launch on the network and somehow manages to find time to direct "Mission: Impossible III" in Europe.
McPherson admits that he would love to have all of Abrams' time, but feels that the writer/producer/director has left things in good hands with his production company, Bad Robot.

"The kind of talent that comes out of there is just enormous," he says. "They really know his template. They understand the way he works and what he wants to get accomplished.

"Secondarily, he's prolific ... he has an amazing ability to plug into things for a limited time and get an amazing amount accomplished. He's very driven, very focused, incredibly creative."

In a scene reminiscent of the tragic conclusion of the James Bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service," the season finale of "Alias" had Sydney driving through the countryside with her fiancee Matthew Vaughn. After confiding that he wasn't who she thought he was, their conversation was abruptly cut short when a truck broadsided their vehicle.

"Alias" premieres Thursday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

'Alias' star's baby won't be covert
By Gary Levin and Robert Bianco, USA TODAY

Jennifer Garner won't have to hide her pregnancy when Alias returns for its fifth (and probably final) season this fall.

That's because Garner's Sydney Bristow also is expecting with Vaughn (co-star Michael Vartan).

Though Ben Affleck's newlywed bride is due in December, Alias creator J.J. Abrams expects she won't miss work on the series, scheduled to resume production Friday. Producers plan to shoot earlier some scenes that would have been filmed during her short maternity leave: "She'll be in every episode," he says.

The decision to write her pregnancy into the plot also means the show can now air largely uninterrupted in its new home, Thursdays at 8 ET/PT, ABC says. An early plan called for the series to air eight episodes, take a long breather and return in the spring.

There will be no "barely-hiding of the pregnancy a la Debra Messing on Will and Grace " on Alias this season. No, turns out Agent Sydney Bristow is expecting as well, with Jennifer's real life ex, Vaughn (Michael Vartan.)

Same as Cory posted :)

From: Scifi Wire:

Rachel Nichols (The Inside) has joined the cast of Alias for its upcoming fifth season, the ABC network announced. In a press release, the network said that Nichols will play Rachel Gibson, a technical analyst working for a black ops division of the CIA. It is likely the character will become the previously announced protege of Sydney Bristow, played by Jennifer Garner, whose pregnancy will be written into the show.

In addition to a starring role on the dark procedural drama The Inside, Nichols appeared in The Amityville Horror with Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George (who played Lauren Reed in the third season of Alias). The season premiere of Alias will air Thursday, Sept. 29, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Tragic News on Alias...

by Kristin Veitch | July 29, 2005

Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow... Heartbroken. Shell-shocked. And just, well, sad. I've never approached a column feeling quite like this, which explains why I rewrote this paragraph nine times before I realized there's no easy way to say:

Someone is leaving Alias. A main, integral character.

It's happening early in the season. And many of you will be devastated.

Now, I'm sure some of you will hate me for this, but I'm not going to name this person. For the sake of the fans (and you know I'm the biggest) and for the sake of those who work so hard on this show, I can't bring myself to ruin what is sure to be a fantastic, mind-blowing twist--the very reason we so love Alias in the first place.

To this end, I've actually sat on this for a while now, and I planned on keeping it a secret. So, why am I opening my big fat yapper now? Because, over the past few days, it's become evident the word is out. Not only has my trusty Batphone sirened five times from different sources telling me the exact same news about this actor's departure, I know reporters at weekly magazines who are thisclose to breaking it.

It's coming.

That said, as the show's biggest cheerleader and the first card-carrying member of Aliasaholics Anonymous, I feel compelled to prep you with an early (and hopefully, helpful) forewarning, along with a request to keep in mind two things when you do hear the news:

Leaving by Choice: Whatever salacious spin these mags may put on this person's exit, the truth is, this AWOL Alias star is leaving of his/her own will. So, let's try to keep the bitter rage to a minimum, mmm-kay?

This Is Not the End of Alias: In fact, despite this character's coming departure--and Jennifer's pregnancy--from what I've heard, this just might be the best season yet--ironically, because of the shocking twists and turns these unexpected events afford. As ABC boss Steve McPherson told reporters earlier this week, "There are some very, very big changes that take place very early on in the season that drive story for the remainder of the year." And oh, what a story it will be. You guys are gonna flip.

Another upside? The new series regular I told you about: Rachel Nichols, whom many of us have loved, and will miss, on Fox's now clearly canceled The Inside. (Perfect casting, if you ask me.) I'm told she'll be a CIA trainee who becomes close with Sydney (Jennifer)--who yes, will be pregnant, most likely with Vaughn's baby. Meanwhile, the new male agent they're close to signing a deal with is, of course, nothing short of delicious. (Remind me should I ever become single again, I need JJ to do my casting.)

So, chins up, tubers. For if Alias has taught us anything from the very first episode, it's that even when the love of your life winds up bloodied in your bathtub, you can still slip into a hot little blue rubber dress and learn to kick ass once more. Especially when you're in the good hands of JJ Abrams.

PRODUCTION HAS BEGUN IN LOS ANGELES ON FIFTH SEASON EPISODES OF
THE AWARD WINNING SPY DRAMA, “ALIAS,” AIRING THURSDAYS ON ABC

The electrifying Emmy Award winning spy drama, “Alias” -- which has received an additional four Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Lead Actress for Jennifer Garner -- has begun production in Los Angeles on emotionally gripping fifth-season episodes in the life of CIA agent Sydney Bristow. Jennifer Garner stars in her Golden Globe Award-winning role in this non-stop thrill ride through espionage, adventure and heart-wrenching drama. “Alias” will have its season premiere on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

After Sydney accepted an assignment to be a member of a new black ops sector of the CIA, known as APO, she was shocked to discover that Sloane was heading up the unit. Without an ounce of trust for her nemesis, Sydney kept a watchful eye on him, as did Vaughn, Dixon and Marshall. But she had to keep her suspicions in tow while working with her half-sister and Sloane's daughter, Nadia, in order not to alienate her and lose her trust. But Sydney was hard-pressed to define the enigma that is Sloane when he shot his own daughter in order to save Sydney's life while thwarting the devastating effects of the Rambaldi endgame. Meanwhile, Jack's near-death experience and the truth behind why he had wrongly believed he killed his ex-wife and Sydney's mother, Irina Derevko, strengthened the bond between father and daughter; while fiancé Vaughn's revelation that he may not be the man Sydney thought he was caught her completely off guard, and a horrendous car accident left their fates in limbo.

Even more gripping and emotional events are in store for Sydney. After they both survive the crash, she learns that the man she has known as Michael Vaughn is under investigation and suspected of being a double agent. She questions whether their business and personal relationship over the years had all been a lie. When Sydney discovers that she is pregnant with Vaughn's baby, she is determined to uncover the truth about him. Meanwhile, because of Jack's past betrayal by Irina, he begins to worry that his daughter may suffer the same fate as he did. He will also have to deal with the fact that he will soon become a grandfather – while still learning how to be a dad. Sloane will have to do some soul-searching of his own, as he makes an unholy alliance in his desperate fight to find a cure for Nadia – who is still in a coma.

New agents will be introduced and a nefarious organization will come to light in Sydney's life as she fights to protect her unborn child -- all the while traveling incognito, outsmarting the bad guys and keeping the world safe.

“Alias” stars Jennifer Garner as Sydney Bristow, Victor Garber as Jack Bristow, Ron Rifkin as Arvin Sloane, Michael Vartan as Michael Vaughn, Carl Lumbly as Marcus Dixon, Kevin Weisman as Marshall Flinkman, Rachel Nichols as Rachel Gibson and Élodie Bouchez as Renée Rienne.

The series was created by J.J. Abrams, who executive-produces along with Ken Olin, Jeff Pinkner, Jesse Alexander and Jeffrey Bell. “Alias” which is filmed in Los Angeles and premiered on September 30, 2001, is from Touchstone Television.

It's Vaughn. Reread what Kristin posted in her article; she spells out MV without actually saying it. He's the only one who fits and she posted on her messageboard today that maybe it wasn't his choice, but he was being fired for "creative" reasons.

08/03 - Kevin Weisman told me that Marshall will be part of the action more next season and not confined to the walls of APO. Also Weisman's real life nephew plays his son on the show so he'll be updating the pictures on Marshall's desk regularly. Source: TVGal @ Zap2it

08/03 - ABC president Steve McPherson told me that it's 80 percent likely that this will be Alias' final season. He also said that despite her pregnancy, Jennifer Garner will appear in every episode this season — even if that means producing fewer episodes. Finally, McPherson expects her maternity leave will result in a longer-than-usual winter hiatus, with the show going off the air at the end of November and returning sometime in March or early April. 08/03 - Greg Grunberg is indeed exiting the show — of his own accord. "It's just time for me to go. I'm weighing a couple great [TV] things right now" that would reunite him with his first love: comedy. As for how Alias producers plan to deal with Weiss' impending exit, Grunny promises that "it will be dramatic." Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide

"Alias" will have its season premiere on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network. Getty will play Thomas Grace, a new agent who joins the APO team and a man with a long history of deep cover experience.

Getty most recently co-starred in the miniseries "Into the West" and "Traffic," and in the feature film "Ladder 49," opposite Joaquin Phoenix and John Travolta. He starred in and produced Newmark Films' "Shadow Hours," which he also co-produced under his production company, 5150. He released his first album in 2004 with Scott Thomas and his band, Ringside. Getty also starred in the Diane Keaton-directed and produced television series, "Pasadena," and in Wayne Wang's digital film, "The Center of the World," with Peter Sarsgaard.

Additional film credits include starring opposite Val Kilmer and Christian Slater in Peter Antonijevic's "In God We Trust," "Big City Blues" with Burt Reynolds and William Forsythe, "Fait Accompli" opposite Rosanna Arquette and Michael Madsen, David Lynch's "Lost Highway," "Mr. Holland's Opus," "Deuces Wild," Ridley Scott's "White Squall," Oliver Stone's "Natural Born Killers," "Where the Day Takes You," "Young Guns II" and "My Heroes Have always Been Cowboys." WTH? It's not like I was going to buy the DVD's anyways(it's a protest thing, LOL), but I thought it was to promote the show? I do NOT understand ABC. They seem to want the show to fail or something. (This could simply be the conspiracy theorist in me talking... )

Season 5 just sounds horrible thusfar(especially since MV just finished his last day of filming last week with Vaughn's funeral)

'Alias' Puts Trust in Getty

The changes at ABC's "Alias" keep on coming. Former "Pasadena" star Balthazar Getty is joining the show, becoming the series' third new cast member in a month.
Getty will play Thomas Grace, a new agent on the APO team who brings experience with deep-cover missions for other parts of the CIA.

"Alias" has a history of periodically blowing up its premise -- and did so again at the end of last season -- and adding and subtracting characters. But the three additions since late July -- Rachel Nichols ("The Inside") and French actress Elodie Bouchez are the others -- represent an unusual concentration of new blood.

It may be necessary, though, to drive the show's plot after the upheaval that closed last season, when Vaughn (Michael Vartan) revealed to Sydney (Jennifer Garner) that he wasn't who he claimed to be, just before a car crash.
Bouchez will play Renee Rienne, an international criminal who has secretly been aiding Vaughn for several years. Nichols is set to play a CIA analyst who works with Sydney, who's now pregnant (as Garner is in real life).

In addition to the short-lived FOX drama "Pasadena," Getty has appeared in TNT's "Into the West" and the USA Network miniseries "Traffic." His movie credits include "Ladder 49," "Shadow Hours" and "Lost Highway."
