"Justice"
Original Air Date on January 18th, 2007
Chloe is walking through the Daily Planet at night, talking to Clark on her cell phone.
Chloe: Clark, I know hunting down Zoners is your top priority, but if you haven't found anything in South America, we still have a situation back here in Kansas we need to deal with. No, he'll be here in 15 minutes. Okay. Great.I'll see you in a few.
A man enters the office.
Chloe: Dr. Casselli. You're early.
Dr. Casselli: You are annoyingly persistent, Miss Sullivan. I've already told you - I don't know anything.
Chloe: Don't sell yourself short, doctor. I think you're a very knowledgeable man. In the last few months, over a dozen patients have been transferred out of the high-security wing at Belle Reve. And I believe that's your signature on all the paperwork.
Dr. Casselli: Patients are transferred in and out of mental facilities all the time.
Chloe: Even ones that exhibit unusual abilities? Where are they transferred to? Is Luthorcorp involved? Does this have anything to do with 33.1?
Dr. Casselli pulls out a gun and points it at Chloe. Chloe puts up her hands.
Chloe: Okay. I'll take that as a "no comment."
Dr. Casselli: I didn't want any of this. But it was so much money.
Dr. Casselli is ready to fire the gun when a red flash of light streaks through the office, knocking Dr. Casselli to the floor, unconscious, and knocking the gun into Chloe's hands. At the same time, Clark appears behind her, but its clear that it was not Clark that saved her.
Clark: Chloe? You okay?
Chloe: Yeah. Just in the nick of time, as always.
Clark: It wasn't me. He was already down when I got here.
Chloe: What? Well, if it wasn't you, then who ...
Clark sees a red form in the office just as it takes off. He follows, close behind as they wind in an out of the streets of Metropolis. They come up on a basketball game where Clark stops to survey the situation.
Guy on the sidelines of a basketball game: He's open! Pass the ball! Pass the ... Oh! What's the matter with you, man?
Clark hears a whistle and sees the same red form off in the distance. He superspeeds to catch the guy but just as he reaches out, the guy is gone in an instant. Clark looks around to find Bart Allen.
Bart: Still too slow, stretch.
Clark: Bart.
Cut to Daily Planet
Chloe: He got away from you? I thought you were the fastest man alive.
Clark: Whoever he was, he saved your life, which is more than I can say.
Chloe: Oh, come on, Clark. It wasn't your fault. Even with all your powers, you can't be everywhere at once.
Clark: I have to be. I'm the only one who can round up the prisoners from the Phantom Zone and stop Lex from experimenting on people with abilities. What did you find out from Casselli about 33.1?
Chloe: Nothing, and I'm not going to. Casselli was in and out of prison before the ink could dry on his fingerprints.
Clark: How'd he get out so fast?
Chloe: I don't know, but a Luthorcorp lawyer paid Casselli a visit right before his release.
Clark: Lex.
Chloe: Casselli could be stashed halfway around the world by now.
Clark: I'll get in touch with Lionel. Maybe he can tell us something.
Chloe: I'll keep sifting through my Luthorcorp intel. Maybe we'll get lucky, and I'll come up with a few bread crumbs.
Bart appears in the barn with them and immediately hits on Chloe.
Bart: Hey, gorgeous. What's up? You miss me?
Chloe clearly doesn't remember meeting Bart when he was in town.
Bart: I'm Bart Allen. We had a moment on the town last time I was here.
Clark: Two years ago, before you had a boyfriend.
Chloe: Oh! Right! Wow. It's good to see you again, Bart.
Bart: The pleasure's all mine, senorita.
Chloe: I'll see you around.
Bart: Muy caliente.
Clark: Knock it off. What's with the Spanish?
Bart: Well, I just grabbed lunch down in Mexico, man. They got this burrito down there ... el intestine-o buster. You got to take a run down there with me to try one.
Clark: What are you doing here, Bart?
Bart: I'm hanging out with my amigo, man. What's it look like?
Clark: That's what I'm trying to find out. Last time you blew through town, you stole my dad's wallet then swiped a priceless artifact from Lex. You nearly got yourself killed.
Bart: Yeah. Yeah, those were the days, huh? Yeah, all right. Look, man, I already told you, things are different now, okay? I mean, back then, I needed a super-kick in the butt, and you laid it on me, and ever since then, there's been no more stealing for this gringo, I swear.
Clark: Am I really supposed to just buy that?
Bart: Well, I could squirt out some tears if that'll help.
Clark: No, but the truth might. What were you doing at the Daily Planet?
Bart: I saw Chloe-licious had a byline a while back. And I was in town on business, figured I ought to check it out.
Clark: What kind of business?
Bart: I'm a courier. I pick things up. I drop them off. Lickety-split. Don't have a fit. [ Clark looks skeptical ] All right look, man, whatever. You don't trust me, that's fine. Okay, I'll be gone before you can even blink.
Clark: I don't know. I can still blink pretty fast. Mexico, huh? Want to go get that burrito?
Bart: Excelente.
Cut to Lois and Oliver arrive at his apartment, unable to take their hands off of each other.
Lois: Whoa![ stumbling ] Now, that is what I call a three-martini lunch.
Oliver: It was a four-martini lunch if you include the one that you spilled on my shirt.
Lois: Right. Well, how am I ever going to make it up to you?
Oliver: I don't know. Because, uh... it's my favorite shirt.
Lois: Well, then, I think we should get it into the laundry so that it doesn't stain.
Oliver: Yeah. That's a good idea.
The start to kiss passionately, until Oliver's cell phone rings.
Oliver: I gotta take this.
Oliver, on the phone.
Oliver: Go ahead. [ He listens for a moment ] Give me five minutes.
He hangs up and turns to Lois.
Oliver: I, uh...
Lois: You know, what I had in mind is gonna take a little longer than five minutes.
Oliver: Rain check?
Lois: Sure. I'll just put it next to the rest of the umbrellas you keep handing me.
Oliver: Lois ...
Lois: I mean, is it just me or is this relationship all interruptus and no coitus? You're always running off just when things start getting interesting, and I like being interested ... a lot.
Oliver: Yeah. I know. You're right. It's, uh... it's not fair to you. I think we should take a break.
Lois: You mean like, what... see other people?
Oliver: Uh, well, okay. Yeah, I mean, if that's what you want. I was actually thinking more along the lines of taking a vacation... together.
Lois: Really?
Oliver: Yeah, really.
Lois: No rushing out in the middle of the good stuff?
Oliver: No. None. It'll be you, me, and... Monte Carlo?
Lois: Hmm.
Oliver: There's just a few things that I do need to take care of before we go, and I think once we get ...
Lois interrupts him with a kiss.
Oliver: God, you're good at that.
Lois: I'll start packing.
Oliver: Okay.
Lois: Bye.
Oliver looks down at his cell phone. The text message says, "Game on."
Cut to Lionel arrives in the study.
Lionel: I need to talk to you. You alone?
Lex: Just me and my shadow, dad. Lana's in Paris with Nell, shopping for a wedding dress.
Lionel: That's good she's out of the country considering what's happening.
Lex: Look, if this is about Dr. Casselli ...
Lionel: Casselli? He's the least of our worries. Another Luthorcorp Facility has been hit. That's six. Each one of them has some connection with 33.1.
Lex: The only thing housed in those facilities was peripheral research.
Lionel: Oh, please.
Lex: All the vital data is still secure in the mainframe.
Lionel: And how long do you think before that location is compromised? If it ever became public that Luthorcorp is experimenting on people with abilities ...
Lex: It won't.
Lex hands Lional a photo.
Lionel: What's this?
Lex: A single frame pulled off a security camera from one of the break-ins. Whoever is responsible has the ability to move faster than a speeding bullet. Such a unique individual would make an interesting test subject to add to 33.1, don't you think?
Lionel: What do you plan to do?
Lex: Protect our investment. Come on. I'll walk you out.
As they leave, Bart arrives in the loft, then speeds down to Lex's computer. He plugs in a device which starts to crack the password to access the computer, then gets on his radio headset when he's finished.
Bart: Yeah, I got it. Meet me at the rendezvous.
Cut to back in Metropolis, Bart arrives in a back alley, expecting to meet someone but noone is around.
Bart: Hey, are we gonna do this or are you gonna lurk in the shadows all night?
Above him, the Green Arrow descends down on a cable.
Oliver: Just being careful. After all, I'm not as fast as you.
Cut to Clark walks into Lionel's office.
Lionel: Clark. I was, uh, just thinking about you.
Clark: You've got a funny way of showing it. I've left you half a dozen messages.
Lionel: I'm sorry. I've been preoccupied.
Clark: Helping that doctor from Belle Reve get out of jail.
Lionel: Clark, my involvement with Belle Reve is past history. But it appears that you still have a very active interest in breaking into Luthorcorp.
Lionel hands Clark the photo from the security camera.
Clark: Where was this taken?
Lionel: Mexico ... the Luthorcorp processing plant. If you're going to continue playing games like this, you should be more careful.
Clark: This isn't me.
Lionel: No? Who is it, then?
Cut to Bart is the Kent kitchen, completely surrounded by empty dishes that he's just finished off.
Bart: God, Mrs. K, thank you so much. This was so good.
Martha: Where do you put it all? You eat more than Clark, and he's twice your size.
Bart: Yeah, well, you know, I burn a lot of calories.
Martha: Well, there's plenty more in the fridge. I have to run to a meeting. Would you mind cleaning up?
As she says this, she turns her back and when she turns back, Bart has cleaned up the whole mess.
Bart: Yeah, anything for you, Mrs. K.
Martha: It's nice to have you here, Bart. I hope you stay longer this time.
Martha leaves just as Clark arrives at home.
Bart: Hey, what's up, man? You just missed a killer spread.
Clark: You can cut the act. I know about Luthorcorp and the break-ins by somebody who's as fast as me.
Bart: Yeah. Faster, actually.
Clark: You know what's funny? I actually believed your story about how I changed your life.
Bart: Look, it's not a story, Clark, okay? Really, I'm not the same guy.
Clark: You stole from Lex before. You're stealing from him again. What's the difference?
Bart: It's just ... ugh! ... It's complicated.
Clark: I'm a smart guy. Explain it to me.
Bart: I can't.
Clark: Why not? I thought we were amigos.
Bart: We are.
Clark: Then tell me why you're stealing from Luthorcorp.
Bart hesitates but remains silent.
Bart: I just... I can't.
Clark: I'll find out for myself, then.
Clark walks over to Bart's backpack but before he can grab it, Bart speeds around him and grabs it.
Bart: Look, I'm sorry I can't tell you all my secrets, Clark. Okay? I thought a guy like you would understand.
Bart flies out the front door of the Kent house.
Cut to Lois's Apartment
Lois: [ Sighs ] I know it's just a vacation, but ...
Chloe: What? Vacation? No, vacation is Palm Springs. Monte Carlo is a fairy tale.
Lois: Yeah, hopefully without Prince Charming having a disappearing act every five minutes.
Chloe picks up a very skimpy piece of lingerie from Lois' suitcase.
Chloe: Um, I think you'll be keeping his full attention, Lois.
Lois: Yeah, you know, I'd better. It's not like I go Victoria's Secret for anybody.
Lois holds the light green lingerie up to herself.
Lois: What do you think? Should I have gone with the black lace?
Chloe: [ Smiling ] No. Something tells me green is definitely his color.
Clark enters suddenly.
Clark: Hey, Chloe.
Lois: God, Smallville. Learn how to knock. What if I'd been naked? Ew.
Chloe: Lois is jetting off to Monte Carlo with Oliver.
Clark: Oliver?
Lois: I'll send you a postcard if I'm not too busy.
Clark: No, Lois, you should, um...
Lois: Get a couple new bikinis. Good idea. Thanks, Smallville.
Lois leaves the apartment.
Clark: Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to help Oliver keep his secret from her.
Chloe: What, that he's the Green Arrow? No offense Clark, but you weren't exactly honest with Lana about your secret, either.
Clark: Look how that ended up. Maybe all keeping secrets does sometimes is force you to lie to the people you care about.
Chloe: Are we still talking about Oliver?
Clark: The guy who saved you at the planet ... he didn't exactly get away. It's Bart.
Chloe: What? Wait a minute. Bart can superspeed, too?
Clark: He's actually a lot faster than I am. That's the truth. I'm sorry I didn't tell you.
Chloe: It's fine. You were protecting him. It's okay. I mean, if anyone gets it, it's me. But why are you outing him now?
Clark: I think he's headed for trouble, and I need to find him. Can you GPS his cellphone?
Chloe: Yeah, I can try. Do you have his number?
Clark: He broke into a Luthorcorp plant down in Mexico. Now I think Lex is on to him. If he tries to break into another facility...
Chloe: No good. His phone must be off.
Clark: What about call history? Can you pull up a record?
Chloe: Legally? Absolutely not.
Chloe smiles and taps into Bart's cell phone call history. There is a repeating number to Metropolis.
Clark: There's over a dozen calls to that number in the last 24 hours.
Chloe: Let's see who's on the other end.
Chloe does a reverse phone lookup on the number, finding a business name.
Clark: Artemis Global Consortium? Never heard of them.
Chloe keeps searching.
Chloe: It's as subsidiary of J.L. International, which is a satellite company currently orbiting... Queen Industries?
Clark: It's Oliver. He's using Bart to attack Luthorcorp.
Cut to Bart speeds into a Luthorcorp Facility, easily avoiding the guards.
Bart: I'm in.
He arrives at a computer terminal, but when he plugs in the same device he used at Lex's mansion, a surge of electricity knocks him unconscious to the floor. Immediate, a group of armed guards storms in, with Lex right behind them.
Lex: Not so fast now, are you?
Cut to Lois's Apartment
Clark: Oliver.
Oliver: Look, Clark, whatever's got your tighty whities in a bunch, now is not the time.
Clark: Where's Bart? I saw his phone records. I know he's working for you.
Oliver: Not for me. Working with me. There's a difference.
Clark: It's not gonna matter when he ends up in jail or worse.
Oliver: Yeah, you don't know what you're talking about.
Clark: I know how much you hate Lex. Is that why you recruited Bart ... to help with your little vendetta?
Oliver: No. To stop 33.1.
Clark: You know about 33.1? Why didn't you tell me what you were up to?
Oliver: Clark, do you check in with me every time you run off to save the world? Oh, that's right. For a second there, I forgot. You like to wait for trouble to show up on your doorstep.
Clark: That's not true.
Oliver: Then why haven't you done anything to stop 33.1?
Clark: I was busy with another problem.
Oliver: What could be more urgent than Lex Luthor developing an army of superfreaks, Clark? That's what he's doing. He's starting a war.
Clark: What have you found out?
Oliver: Not enough. Last night Bart infiltrated a place that was supposed to house the mainframe for 33.1. That's the last time I heard from him. So I reconned the target this morning. The place had been stripped clean. Everything's gone. The whole thing was a setup.
Clark: Lex has Bart. We have to find him.
Oliver: My team's already on it.
Clark: Your team?
Oliver motions behind him, and Clark turns to see Victor Stone and Arthur Curry walking into the room.
Victor Stone: Not everybody flies solo, Kent.
Cut to Lex walks into a huge room with a large enclosed glass chamber in the middle, where Bart is being held. As he enters, all of the lights turn on and Bart wakes up on the floor of the chamber.
Lex: Morning, sunshine. I know you. You've stolen from me before.
Bart: I want a lawyer.
Lex: And I want a ponytail. Disappointment abounds. Who do you work for?
Bart: What you see is what you get, there, goldilocks.
Lex: You're a low-level thief. Swiping corporate data isn't your style. Now, tell me who you're working for, and this won't have to get unpleasant.
Bart: All right. All right, I work for a guy called Mr. Kiss-my-butt. Would you like me to introduce you?
Lex is unamused. He pulls out a small remote control device.
Lex: The floor of your cell has been outfitted with pressure plates designed to track movement. Stop in one place for even a millisecond after I activate them, and you fry. Last chance. [ Bart remains silent ] Well, maybe you'll feel more talkative when you get tired of running.
Lex walks away, activating the chamber as he does. Bart feels the shock and immediately starts running in circles, keeping the electric plates deactivated.
Bart: Aah!
Cut to
Oliver: A.C., check the Luthorcorp manifests.
Arthur: Gotcha.
Clark: How long have you guys been working together?
Victor: I joined up about six months ago. Ollie and Bart had already been doing their thing.
Clark: What about your girlfriend ... Katherine?
Arthur: Dude, don't even go there.
Victor: She gave it her best shot. But with all this hardware in me...
Clark: I'm sorry, Victor.
Victor: Ollie found me, I was living on the streets. He gave me a warm meal, roof over my head... and a reason to go on living.
Oliver walks in from the other room.
Oliver: Did he just say something nice about me?
Arthur: Maybe he's starting to rust.
Clark: A.C., how'd you fall into all this?
Arthur: I got into a little trouble sinking a whaler off the coast of Japan.
Victor: A little trouble? That's what you're gonna go with? Ollie had to save your scaly butt from getting filleted.
Arthur: I would have gotten out of it.
Oliver: Oh really? Before or after they packed you into a thousand little tin cans?
Victor: Well, at least he would have been dolphin-safe.
Arthur: Fish jokes. That's all I ever get are fish jokes. So how's Lois doing, man? Is she all right?
Clark: Um, I think you'd have to ask your boss.
Oliver sidesteps the question.
Oliver: Now is not the time. We need to focus on locating Bart.
Clark: And how exactly did you get him involved in this? He's never been much of a team player.
Oliver: Looks like you two have something in common, huh? Actually, um, I was out on patrol in Star City one night, and I came across Bart. He was helping himself to a free meal. I could tell he was a good kid, you know? He just needed a little direction, so I offered him a job.
Clark: Look where that got him.
Oliver: I underestimated Lex. It won't happen again. I've compiled a list of all Luthorcorp holdings within a 100-mile radius. Bart could be held in any one of those facilities.
Victor: That's a lot of real estate to cover.
Clark: I think I know someone who can help us narrow it down.
Cut to
Chloe: Victor Stone and Arthur Curry are working for him, too?
Clark: Yeah, Oliver's been busy. Is there anything in your Luthorcorp intel that can help us find outwhere Bart's being held?
Chloe: [ Sighs ] I don't know. Uh... wait. When I had my feelers out for Dr. Casselli, I managed to shake loose some internal documents. In the last few days, there's been a flurry of equipment transfers to a place called the Ridge Facilities on the outskirts of Metropolis.
Clark: Doesn't Luthorcorp move equipment all the time?
Chloe: This isn't just a couple of forklifts, Clark. Half a ton of lead shielding, electrical pressure plates, more than $20 million worth of equipment to measure high-velocity particles.
Clark: It's Bart. Take evething and bring it to Oliver.
Chloe: Me? Clark ...
Clark: I can get to the Ridge Facility faster myself. I can't let anything happen to Bart.
Cut to Clark arrives at the Ridge Facility and starts looking around.
Cut to Oliver can see Chloe riding the elevator to his apartment on his video screen.
Chloe: Mr. Queen, it's Chloe Sullivan. Clark sent me.
Oliver: Where's Clark?
Chloe: He went to rescue Bart.
Oliver: He told you about Bart?
Chloe: We trust each other. Clark tells me everything ... well, almost everything. I did have to figure out about your green-leather fetish on my lonesome. Don't worry. I didn't say anything to Lois. Although, you might want to consider ...
Oliver: Hey, let's just stick to the main plot, there, sidekick. So, what do you got?
Chloe: Hopefully a solid lead on Bart. Where are Victor and A.C.? [ Oliver hangs his head in disbelief] Victor: Guess we're not that good at the whole "secret" part of this yet.
Victor: Guess we're not that good at the whole "secret" part of this yet.
Chloe: Yeah, but you're great at getting caught by the villain.
Chloe's remark stings both Victor and Arthur.
Chloe: Anyway, I think Bart's being held at a place called the Ridge Facility.
Arthur: That's down by the docks.
Oliver: It's on our list of possible 33.1 targets. [Oliver brings up a schematic of the Ridge Facility on a screen nearby ] All right, boys. You know the drill. Let's gear up and get out.
Chloe: Oh, no.
Oliver: What now?
Chloe: Lead shielding. This isn't just for Bart. I think the Ridge Facility's being used to refine meteor rock. Clark's in trouble.
Cut to Clark makes his way into the Ridge Facility and runs into a huge door marked "Restricted". When Clark opens it and steps inside, he is surrounded by jars of refined meteor rocks and falls to the ground, writhing in pain.
Cut to Two guards are on patrol when an arrow lands near them, emitting a knock-out gas.
Oliver: Green Arrow to Watchtower. We're in position.
Chloe: Okay, there should be a security access panel near the east door. According to this schematic, you need to very carefully rewire the sys ...
Victor: Or... I could just jack in and shut the whole perimeter down.
Chloe: You can do that?
Victor: Queen Industries upgrade.
Victor plugs in a wire from the access panel into his forearm and his eyes dilate, showing a computer display.
Victor: Accessing perimeter security. Perimeter neutralized.
Oliver: Aquaman, you're up.
A.C. comes up from the water beneath the facility and proceeds up a long ladder into the building.
Arthur: Perimeter breached. Proceeding to target.
Inside, Victor kicks in a huge steel door.
Oliver: You'd make one hell of a can opener.
Victor: You'd look good on a bag of green beans.
Oliver: All right, we're in. Which way?
Chloe: The refinement vault's 100 meters southwest. Still no word from Clark.
Victor: If he's in there, we'll get him out. Let's go.
Oliver: You've got a different mission.
Victor: You're the boss, Robin Hood.
Chloe: Wait, what mission? What are you doing?
Chloe: Watchtower to Green Arrow. What's your status?
Oliver: Switching to silent running. Stand by for instructions. Aquaman, do your thing.
A.C. has breached security and is in a vent shaft above the door to a heavily fortified room. The room appears to be the data center for the whole complex. There are armed guards all over the room with automatic rifles at the ready.
Green Arrow encounters a couple of guards and neutralizes them, while Victor runs through an underground corridor. When Victor encounters 2 guards, he powers between them, sending the guards flying through the air and against the opposite walls.
Clark is on the floor, still immobilized when a guard finds him.
Guard: Hey. You're not supposed to be here.
Oliver fires a knock-out arrow and the guard falls to the ground.
Oliver: Neither am I. Come on.
Oliver carries Clark out of the room.
Clark: I'm all right.
Oliver: You sure? Green Arrow to Watchtower. Boy Scout's out of the woods.
Clark: Boy Scout?
Oliver: If you hadn't ran off, you could have picked your code name. You don't want to play for the team, that's fine. You can be smart about it.
Clark: Point taken. Where's Bart?
Oliver: "Impulse." He didn't get to pick his own code name either. Watchtower will guide you to where he's probably being held.
Clark: What are you gonna be doing?
Oliver switches to his Green Arrow voice modulation.
Oliver: What I do best.
Oliver leaves Clark in a long hallway and begins placing small explosive devices all over the facility.
Chloe: Watchtower to Boy Scout. Let's find Impulse.
Victor walks into the secured room and all of the guards have been knocked out. A.C. steps out.
Victor: Cyborg to Aquaman. Where the hell are you, fish stick?
Arthur: Dude, what took you so long?
Victor: Nice. But, please, put a shirt on.
Arthur: I swim faster when I'm naked.
Victor: I bet you do.
Arthur: You're lucky I still got my pants on.
Victor plugs into the mainframe and pulls up a schematic of the building, while Oliver continues setting charges throughout the corridors.
Chloe: Boy Scout's located Impulse.
Clark sizes up the chamber holding Bart, then super speeds through the glass, grabbing Bart and breaking through the other side, shielding Bart as the whole chamber explodes behind them.
Clark: Bart, you okay?
Bart: Muy bueno, amigo.
Out in the corridors, Lex is talking on a radio.
Lex: I don't care. I want a level-one lockdown. No one gets in or out.
Oliver: Little late for that. You got 10 minutes to clear your people out of here before I blow this place off the map.
Lex: You.
Oliver: You remember. I'm touched.
Lex: Well, it's a little hard to forget. Last time we met, you put an arrow in my chest.
Oliver: You put a bullet in mine. Bygones?
Lex: Go to hell.
Oliver: You first.
Oliver pulls an arrow and fires it at Lex, just grazing the side of Lex's face before embedding itself in the wall behind him. When Lex looks up again, Green Arrow is gone.
Clark: Can you superspeed?
Bart: Yeah, I just ... I need a minute to catch my breath.
Oliver: You know what? You're gonna have to catch it later. Aquaman, Cyborg, rendezvous alpha confirmed.
Victor: We're on the move.
Oliver: Watchtower, have all Luthor's people cleared the building?
Chloe: The last heat signatures are moving away from the North.
Clark: Wait a second. What are you doing?
Oliver: What do you think I'm doing? You want more of your friends to end up in here?
Bart: Yeah, I'm voting no on that one.
Clark: Watchtower, are you sure everyone's out of the building?
Chloe: 100% positive.
Clark considers Oliver very carefully before deciding.
Clark: All right. Let's do it.
As the team leaves the facility, the entire structure goes up in a series of massive explosions.
Chloe: Whoa.
Cut to
Oliver: [ On his cell phone ] Have the jet fueled and ready. I want to be in the air as soon as possible.
Lois: Hey. I hope your bird's got some serious lift, 'cause this thing weighs a ton. Aren't you packed yet? Where's your stuff?
Oliver: Lois, um...
Lois: Don't even think about saying what I think you're gonna say.
Oliver: I'm sorry. I, um, I have to go away on business.
Lois is crushed but is not giving up.
Lois: Postpone it.
Oliver: It's not that simple.
Lois: Nothing with you ever is. You're like two completely different people. There's the charming, romantic guy that I fell in love with, and then there's this other guy who can't stick around in one place long enough to see what he's missing.
Oliver: Ever since my parents died... I've jumped around from city to city, from continent to continent. And... in all those years... not once have I regretted leaving anyone. But then I met you.
Lois: Then stay.
Oliver: I can't. Because there are more important things in this world than what I want... and what I love. I hope someday I can explain why.
Lois: Don't expect me to be waiting around for that when you get back.
Oliver: I'm not coming back, Lois. At least not anytime soon. I'm sorry. I never wanted to hurt you.
Lois: Well, you finally got around to it anyway, didn't you?
Oliver: This is it... the moment, right? The moment that I'm gonna regret for the rest of my life, isn't it?
Lois: Yes.
She kisses him, then turns to leave.
Cut to
Lionel: Bart Allen ... gone. He escaped. A multi-million-dollar installation destroyed. 33.1 irrevocably compromised. But at least you found out, son, the jolly green archer and his extraordinary cohorts ... they're not your run-of-the-mill adversaries.
Lex: Which is exactly why we have to continue with 33.1. If terrorists like Green Arrow are recruiting people with abilities, the only way to protect freedom and democracy is to fight fire with fire.
Lionel: Freedom and democracy? Well, I hadn't realized your goals were quite so lofty.
Lex: Well, there's a lot that escapes your attention in your declining years, Dad, but not mine. The security footage from the Ridge Facility was destroyed. However, several guards describe one of Green Arrow's men as someone that sounded remarkably like Clark Kent.
Lionel: Clark? Impossible.
Lex: A word that always seems to popup when talking about him, doesn't it?
Lionel: Lex, it was not Clark.
Lex: How can you be so sure?
Lionel: Because I was having dinner with him last night when all this happened. Martha made pot roast with new potatoes and tiny little baby carrots. It was delicious. Clark... Clark had three helpings. Don't worry, son. You still have plenty of enemies out there plotting your downfall.
Cut to
Chloe: Okay. Thanks. So the Daily Planet is running with the story that a gas explosion destroyed the "vacant" Luthorcorp building down by the docks.
Clark: Vacant? Looks like the Luthor cover-up machine is in full swing.
Chloe: Well, at least we got Bart out before Lex ran him into an early grave.
Bart: Come on. No worries. I had plenty of juice left.
Victor: Could have fooled me, the way you cleaned out Mama Kent's fridge.
Bart: That's 'cause I like to stay fueled up. Just in case I need to, uh, spring into action.
Chloe: I still have a boyfriend.
Bart: Yeah. Well, a man can dream, can't he?
Arthur: Now you know why we call him Impulse.
Clark: Impulse, Cyborg, Aquaman, Green Arrow. What do you guys call your team?
Bart: I don't know. I've been thinking that we need something cool. We need something like, uh ... like, uh ...
Oliver: I was thinking about something with the word "Justice" in it. After all, that's what Lex is gonna get a big dose of. Victor and A.C. were able to hack into the 33.1 mainframe before we blew the building.
Chloe: That was your other mission.
Victor: Haven't met the computer yet I couldn't crack wide open.
Clark: What did you guys find out?
Arthur: That Lex isn't satisfied playing in his own backyard anymore.
Oliver: Luthorcorp is starting up divisions of 33.1 all across the globe. Wherever there's evidence of people with abilities, there'll be laboratories to do experiments on them.
Clark: We can't let that happen.
Oliver: We won't. Gentlemen, our first target is a large facility on the island of Corto Maltese. You guys know the drill. Wheels up in 30 minutes. Get your gear.
Bart: You coming, amigo?
Arthur: Yeah, you got to come with us, man.
Victor: We could use the big guns.
Oliver: They're right, you know ... you'd be a major asset to the team.
Clark: I want to be a part of this, guys. I really do.
Oliver: But...
Clark: That problem I told you about ... the one that I caused ... I have to take care of that first.
Oliver: This isn't the end of the story, Clark. [ They shake hands ] This is just the beginning. Chloe. Come on, boys. Let's go save the world.
Chloe: You have some pretty amazing friends, Clark Kent.
Clark: Yeah. I do.
