Garner Realistic About Affleck MarriageBy Wenn Newlywed actress Jennifer Garner is remaining open-minded about the long-term future of her marriage with Ben Affleck, because she knows the partnership takes "hard work." The pregnant Alias beauty, 33, was previously married to Felicity star Scott Foley, until it ended in divorce last year. After a brief romance with her Alias co-star Michael Vartan, Garner began dating Affleck in July 2004 and married him in an intimate ceremony in the Caribbean in June. Despite admitting she "couldn't be happier," Garner admits she doesn't believe marriage guarantees a happy ending. She tells InStyle magazine, "I don't have this fantasy about marriage anymore. "Everyone says it takes hard work. Well, it kind of does--and I'm much more pragmatic about romance than I used to be. "[With Scott] I wanted to see him as a white knight and was crushed whenever anything normal happened. I wanted to be the princess. Now I'm much more willing to see myself as human and flawed, and accept someone--the whole picture. "My life is definitely changing for the better. I couldn't be happier or feel more comfortable with the direction it's going in." From: Hollywood.com

Alias' Garner Guarded About LifeAlias star Jennifer Garner told InStyle magazine that she became "hyper-protective" about her marriage to Ben Affleck and her impending motherhood after the news of her pregnancy "got out when I was in the middle of my first trimester," according to an Associated Press report. "I hadn't even had a chance to tell my friends," Garner told the magazine. "That alone was so ugly." Garner and Affleck were wed June 29. "We were able to have a beautiful, private wedding, and I couldn't be happier," the 33-year-old actress said. Garner added: "If we were just chatting I would tell you everything, but I feel uncomfortable with people reading too much about my pregnancy or my relationship. It grosses me out. It's too sweet to read about or dissect or talk about." Garner's interview is in the September issue of InStyle, now on newsstands. Alias returns to ABC Sept. 29 in its new Thursday night timeslot. Affleck and Garner Eye New York EstateBy Wenn Expectant parents Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are reportedly planning to quit Hollywood to raise their child on a sprawling estate in New York's upscale Westchester County. The Daredevil co-stars were recently spotted touring a 60 acre, $28 million estate called Linden Farm in Cross River. The property boasts an eight-bedroom main house with a pool, library and even a waterfall. A source says, "The estate backs up onto a 4,700 acre nature preserve. If they are looking for privacy and a way to escape the outside world, this is how to do it. "It's one of the most spectacular homes you could imagine. And both of their families are on the east coast-hers in West Virginia and his in Massachusetts-so this is the perfect spot for grandparents to visit." Affleck and Garner's first child together is due later this year. From: Hollywood.com

Jennifer Garner's Violet baby showerWord on the street is that Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck will name their baby girl Violet. The name was apparently the inspiration for a purple-hued baby shower theme according to the latest issue of US Magazine. Guests dined on salad, quiche, and fruit, and gifts included a My Brest Friend nursing pillow and a pink (not violet?) embroidered dress. As guests presented the gifts to Jennifer, they stood next to her and read a poem or told a story about her and Ben. Jennifer Garner is due November 11. From: Blogging Baby

No bliss for Garner in thrillerJennifer Garner is going on "Sabbatical." The "Alias" heroine will star in and produce the Disney erotic thriller, follows a couple that hits the doldrums in their seventh year of marriage. To inject some life into their union, they decide to take a two-week sabbatical from each other during which, within a set of rules, they can do whatever they want. When the wife returns to the agreed-upon meeting place two weeks later, however, she discovers that her husband has disappeared. Garner's Vandalia Films banner sold the project to Disney, along with production company LivePlanet ("Matchstick Men") and Chuck Weinstock, who came up with the idea. A writer will be named shortly. Garner, who won a Golden Globe and a SAG Award for her performance on ABC's "Alias," will next be seen on the big screen in Sony's "Catch and Release." She is currently awaiting the delivery of her child with Ben Affleck. From: Yahoo

Affleck, Garner--and BabyBy Joal Ryan The shade of purple also happens to be the name of the baby girl born to Garner, E! Entertainment has learned. The child made her debut at a Los Angeles hospital after labor was induced Wednesday night, Us Weekly reported Thursday morning, adding that Affleck "was with her the entire time." In a statement, publicists for the couple said, "Mother, father and baby are doing great." The release pinpointed the time of birth as 3:26 p.m. Thursday, an apparent swipe at Us Weekly, which at least five hours prior had reported the baby as being born. So far, the magazine is standing behind its timeline of events. The child is the first for both. Affleck and Garner, both 33, wed June 29, almost two months after their expectant news was leaked. In completing her labor day, Garner beats her prime-time alter ego to the nursery. Sydney Bristow, the Alias secret agent that made Garner a star, also is with child. Producers of the ABC spy series wrote in the pregnancy after Garner's was confirmed. Alias was canceled last week by ABC. It'll finish its fifth and final season in May, after a previously scheduled eight-week-long maternity leave of sorts starting in January. TV show or no, Garner's plate is full. In addition to the baby, she has a new movie, Catch and Release, due out next year. It's her first shot at headlining a real-people drama (from Erin Brockovich writer Susannah Grant) as opposed to a fantasy comedy (13 Going on 30) or a superhero adventure (Elektra). Meanwhile, no bad reviews are good reviews for Father Affleck, who will not appear on the big screen in 2005--the first time that's happened since 1994. While it might seem as if romance, marriage and pregnancy has kept the actor otherwise occupied, he might have as many as three films out next year, including Truth, Justice and the American Way, about the 1959 death of TV Superman George Reeves. Before marrying Garner, Affleck endured the worst box office and worst publicity of his career. When he wasn't making headlines for his overexposed, and eventually scuttled, engagement to Jennifer Lopez, he was launching dud (Gigli) after dud (Paycheck) after dud (Jersey Girl) after dud (Surviving Christmas). Affleck and Garner met on the set of 2003's Daredevil--he was the titular hero; she was Elektra. The two began dating in 2004, after Affleck had moved on from Lopez, and after Garner had moved on from Alias costar Michael Vartan and first-husband Scott Foley. From: E! Online

Jennifer Garner Sensibly Loses Baby WeightNew mom Jennifer Garner has turned her back on the extreme diets adopted by Tinseltown mothers in favor of healthy eating and a light exercise regime. The star, who gave birth to husband Ben Affleck's daughter Violet last December, has enlisted the help of fitness guru Valerie Waters to shed the 35 pounds gained during her pregnancy. Waters says, "Jen is on target to getting back her pre-baby figure through moderate exercising and sensible eating. She's not jumping on that celeb mom bandwagon of getting super-skinny, super-quickly. She is more concerned about keeping healthy and spending time with Violet than anything else. So because she's a busy career woman and a hands-on mom who nurses the baby, it's unrealistic for her to aim for a rigorous exercise regime." She added, "I think it's great that Jen doesn't obsess about her weight and is losing it at a sensible rate." From: Starpulse

Witherspoon, Garner and Tyson Tour New Orleans Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Garner and Cicely Tyson have paid a visit to New Orleans, Louisiana to draw attention to the plight of families trying to adjust to life in the city post-Hurricane Katrina. The city on the Gulf Coast was submerged by water following the devastating natural disaster in August - and life has yet to return to normal following a much-criticized relief effort. Oscar-winner Witherspoon says, "I don't think you get a real clear perspective unless you come down and see it. "The children need attention right now." The three actresses joined forces with the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) during their Monday visit, and spoke at a Freedom School set up by the group. Following her visit, Alias star Garner says, "I've been shocked and heartbroken." From: ABC4

Universal Pictures turns Gilbert jail into Hollywood set By Beth Lucas, Tribune July 15, 2006 Gilbert's town jail began to transform Friday into a Saudi Arabian prison as Universal Pictures prepares to film a scene for its movie The Kingdom on Monday. The movie, which will be released in 2007, stars Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Chris Cooper and Jason Bateman. The movie is directed by Peter Berg and produced by Michael Mann. It stars Foxx as a leader of an elite team of counterterrorism investigators working in what was an off-limits desert kingdom. They are trying to find terrorists responsible for bombing American workers in the Middle East. Being the first major studio feature to film in the state since Gov. Janet Napolitano signed the motion picture incentive plan is very exciting to us, executive producer Steve Saeta said in a news release distributed by the Arizona Department of Commerce. A movie studio also has been set up at Arizona State University Polytechnic near Pecos and Power roads in Mesa. Gilbert was chosen for the prison scene, since it has modern jail facilities with no bars, but thick glass and doors instead. The reason they wanted our jail, is the movie is supposed to be taking place in Saudi Arabia, and it has money and good equipment, Gilbert Lt. Joe Ruet said of the jail built by the town only a few years ago near Gilbert and Warner roads. On Friday, he said, crews were placing Arabic numerals on lockers and the walls. The actors arrive Monday for filming. Adult prisoners in Gilbert's jail were moved to the juvenile facilities for the filming, Ruet said. The prisoners will remain separated, and no prisoners will be near the production, expected to wrap up Monday, Ruet said. The town will be given about $12,000 for the use of the jail, which is expected to go toward a memorial for fallen police officers, specifically officer Rob Targosz, 37, who died in a crash caused by a driver suspected to be under the influence. A committee is still meeting to plan the memorial. From: The East Valley Tribune

The Afflecks home, sweet home in CambridgeTinseltown twosome Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are giving up the glitz and glamour of La-La to raise their daughter in Cambridge, Us Weekly reported on its Web site yesterday. They realize it's important to be as un-Hollywood' as they can, a pal told Us Weekly. As you are sooooooooo aware by now, the Afflecks have settled quite nicely into a rented manse near Ben's childhood home in the People's Republic whilst he films Gone, Baby, Gone. (The film wraps Aug. 4.) And the Hollywood honeys appear to be quite content with life in Harvard Square as they take daily walks with little Vi in the carriage, chatting up neighbors and fans along the way. Can't do that in paparazzi-infested Brentwood! The couple, according to the maggie's sources, plan to commute to the Left Coast for film projects and other movie star commitments, but would call Cambridge home. And why not? Ben's mom, Chris, lives nearby, Jen's sis lives in Newton and ya know how the GBG director loves the local politics (they've both ponied up to Deval Patrick's gubernatorial campaign). Ben's PR man Ken Sunshine, who doesn't respond to stories originating in the tabloids, told the Track his client has had a great time while filming in Boston. But that's all he's focusing on for the moment. From: The Boston Herald
