Currently my favourite is "Shimmer" but I change my mind on this frequently. I think both the Pilot and "Tempest" are brilliantly written and conematographically excellent, but "Shimmer" give us a few good glimpses of Lex at home and Lex at his best (being kind to Amy, for example), and I like the idea of a green rose that can make people invisible.
So - what's your favourite episode, and why?

fd~ Are you sure you wanna know? Well, okay.. honesty.. At first it was Shimmer, because the C&L moments were awesome, I loved the sky "sunset" in the background. I also think this was the same ep when him and Lex were standing there and Lex says the famous line about Friendship. Of course I loved the Pilot. I loved how it brought all the characters to life and set the stage perfectly. Oh hell, Clark on the stake won me over. I also enjoyed Nicodemous (forgive my spelling) because of course the Lana and Clark scenes. Loved the lines, Loved the setup, loved the ending with them on the windmill. And Crush.. hmmm... Don't get me wrong it was a great episode, but I actually hated it. I think I hated it so much that's why I liked it. Tempest, I didn't like much either. For once I think I liked the whole Tornado storyline better than the rest. Probably because C&C were getting together and I just don't know.

Hmmm... Shimmer is up there in the top three for all the reasons both of you stated. I agree the Pilot definitely has the whole half-naked Farmboy vibe going for it (WHEW! ) but I also like the sheer scope of it. I have a fondness for Jitters - partially because it's a Lionel episode (can't get enough of the MB), but also for the 'episode within an episode' feel of Clark's Party. AND for the family relationship background stuff, for both the Kent and Luthor clans. My problem with Smallville is I like individual *scenes* so much more than entire episodes; a wonderful character driven B-plot can be spoiled at any time by an Invasion of the Freak of the Week from Hell A-plot. But such is life... and SV. I've heard there are new writers coming on board for Season 2. That may change some of the script schizophrenia. Or is this a topic for Another thread?

What are you referring to? The spoiler scripts? I'm a little confused. What would a mental disorder have to do with the scripts? Oh and there are no rules here really, so post whatever or wherever you like with regard to our 3 main rules in the Announcements and you can do just about anything.

Looks as if we have a lot of consensus here! The Pilot has some of my favourite scenes - like the bridge scene. For example.
I'm also very fond of Jitters. Lex in peril - Lex being heroic - I love it!

I've heard about the new writers too. I'm really glad about that because some of the writers just didn't pay attention to the past episodes and it didn't just have a continuous storyline flow at some points. For season 1 you could watch most of the episodes out of order, and not even notice it (except for the last few, those had continuous storylines: the dance and clark's chance at being exposed).
So far, what I've heard about this one new writer has made me very happy. But, I'm biased based in an interview, he said he liked Chloe and would rather Clark be with her...so of course I love him write off the bat. But, if you also add in the fact that he wrote for the comic for many years, it makes it all the better. He knows the back story of superman and has had experience in it. I'm looking forward to his work.

Where did you see thie interview, Kristal? I'd like to read it. Was it with Jeph Loeb? I have greatly admired his comic book writing, especially the work he did on Batman.

It was with Mark Waid and you can find it on the main page of www.kryptonsite.comyou'll have to scroll down a bit to get to it.

Mark Waid is good too. But I do hope they don't try to get closer to DC Superman canon. I must prefer Smallville as it has been - a show about people in Smallville.

Bad choice of words on my part. I was referring to the split between plotline A and plotline B that sometimes occurs. The split is so severe that it's like watching two different shows. For example, in Leech we have A plot FOTW teenage misfit Eric throwing cars around, and the B plot chez Luthor has business & emotional double and triple-crossing, corporate takeovers, and financial annihilation. (And some *really* tacky interiour decorating, but that's for another discussion). We have a comic book plot, and an adult drama plot. I'd just like the tone of any given show to be more integrated, in one direction or the other, and that's what I'm hoping for from the new writers. Is what I'm sayin'.

I think the new writer is Jeph Loeb, not Mark Waid. Here's a quote from Ksite: Quote: Quote: NEWS POSTED AUGUST 22, 2002 Jeph Loeb Interview At The Superman Homepage
New Smallville writer Jeph Loeb was recently interviewed at the Superman Homepage, where he talked about the environment of working on the show and also how it relates to writing the comics.
So it looks like Loeb is actually working on the show. I have it on good authority (fajrdrako that is) that he's an *excellent* writer. I have high hopes.

Both are on board to write for Smallville season 2, I think.

Mark Waid and Jeph Loeb are both respected and successful comic book writers. Mark Waid has long been associated with DC comics in one way or another; Jeph Loeb has worked for and with numerous companies.
I hope they don't play it too close to DC canon, and their comic book associations make me uneasy. You'd think a writer with no clue about comics might be less likely to feature the hokier stereotypes of comic book plotting.
On the other hand, when comic book movie adaptations have been made, the best by far have been written by those who know comics well and respected them, while the worst by far were those who had no experience in comics and who believed the "bf! bam! whap!" kryptonite-villain type plots were all there were.
Waid and Loeb are both good writers in my experience so... it might be great.
I hope they like Lex though.
