Okay, here goes my rant..  I hated this episode. Stupid, stupid, stupid.  The whole freak of the week had to be the dumbest one yet. I kept rolling my eyes everytime that bad breath came out of her mouth.  Chloe made me really mad this episode. Sounded so unlike her and jealousy didnot fit her. I can understand she's hurt but the way she said lines and her comebacks were uncalled for. Clark. Ugh. He made me mad too. AT the end of the show Mike and I both looked at each other and said oh god another Dawson.  Lets see.. the "new" mighty heat vision.. comes with Sex. Yeah, right. He's kissed Lana and Chloe before why not then? I'm sure he has had these inner thoughts and desires already, didn't just start now at what 17?  So now he's thinking he can't even think about Lana in that way or the fire will emerge? LOL. Um, okay.. Blah...

I actually loved this episode. Much more than the previous one. It was really funny, especially if you look at it from Clex point of view. Truly hilarious. I got the impression that because of the heat wave, all that solar energy stored up in Clark and then the added thoughts on sex, which made him even warmer, it just was too much for his teenage alien body. The only things I had problems with were: a.) they skipped all of summer! they don't even have a short 1 minute exposition to say what happened. b.) Chloe was a bit too...much with the jealous. We get it, your mad, now ease up a bit ok? Thank you. I like where Lana is headed this season. Last season, she was my least favorite character. This season, however, she's really interesting and has a much better storyline rather than the "oh, my parents were squished into pancakes by a meteor. Feel sorry for me." Big improvement.

I agree that Heat was wildly uneven. There should have been some sort of transition between the two episodes (it was like jumping into an ice cold pool)...and the "Freak of the Week" was a bit cheesy (even though Krista Allen *is* amazingly, animalistically -- is that a word? -- hot)...and it echoed Nicodemus (however you spell it) in certain spots...
but...
you have to admit, the first 10 minutes or so were hilarious! I mean Clark, going in heat, literally! His little involuntary, premature spurts of heat vision...classic! (Then again, I'm a sucker for potty humor...)
I mean, I was so amused by those initial scenes, I couldn't help but feel let down at episode's end.
And is it just me or are the writer's really speeding the plot along? Judging by the scenes of the next ep, Clark's powers are revealed pretty quickly -- in keeping with the comic, it's gotta be either Pete (my guess) or Lana. I didn't expect this to happen until at least sweeps...
Of course, if they can afford to use this plot line now, I can only imagine what's in store later...

Good point about the increasing store of solar power being a contibuting factor. I don't mean to be repetitive as I've pointed this out elsewhere but if you view the scene in the biology room yo see the moment where Clark looks at Desiree's sweaty cleavage, then we see Chloe rolling her eyes as Clark turns quickly away (perhaps seeing Chloe watching him) then he lifts his head, flares his nostrils and inhales something. Was this the moment when he's hit with the enhanced pheremones and suddenly he's really, literally in heat? That plus the solar energy was just too much.
It was funny and Smallville should have more episodes that use the humor inherent in a guy having these abnormal abilities that he can't always control. I just found the sudden appearance and easy control of the power a bit too unbelievable. I hope we see him lose control sometimes in future eps. The scenes where he had to discuss what happened with his parents were truly hilarious and TW was great in showing his embarassment, especially with his dad out in the field.

Most welcome sking!  And oh yes.. now see I didn't miss those parts. Silly me.. I should of known better! Of course I was just so worried about Lex BEING on fire that I didn't focus on Clark jumping on him as much. Well?! I was worried about him.  But then again, I also didn't notice until someone pointed it out all the lemonade drinking during the episode.

I'm with sking1. A hot Lex is a good Lex. Luckily, Lex is always hot. Um, am I being distracted here?
Then there was Clark in his T-shirt. Those arms.
I liked Heat for numerous reasons, including its humour - the jiffy pop was the best touch. I liked it particularly that, failing to use her powers on Clark, Desiree went for Jonathan. (And we don't even see Martha's reaction to that!)
I liked Lex's confusion, as if he was never quite 100% under Desiree's spell but couldn't pull out of it, either.
