Well, everyone? What'd you think?
I thought it was a great episode... My heart bleeds for Lex. I thought Clark ought to have been there at the hospital with him, the way Lex was there for him when Jonathan was hospitalized in "Nicodemus".
Lana had some good lines.
And Chloe! Awwww... I've been in her sort of situation *so* often I can really feel for her.
Jonathan was quite wonderful. Defending Clark to the end, not quite understanding how vile Nixon could be. When Lex wanted to shake his hand I think I was holding my breath - or maybe I was just glaring at him like Clark was, to make him Do The Right Thing. Which he did. Yay!
So there's this loose space ship out there in a field... Who do you think will find it first?

I am really blown away by it. It was spectacular IMO. I hadn't read any other spoiler except for the script pages (being loyal and all ) so I had NO IDEA about the part with Lex killing Nixon. Total shocker! Would this be his first real bad thing? Yet, it was to protect the good. Ironic. Characters looked great. I've never loved Chloe, but I *felt* really bad for her. But it works out in the end, cause I'm still waiting on him to make his move on Lana. IMO, it just seemed to out of place. I mean first he is gaga over Lana and then all the sudden *might* like Chloe. Please. He was just using her as a backup; which I'd rather not see. I think I too was holding my breath at the end between Lex & Jonathon. I'm sure I'll think of more later on... Spaceship? Hmmm.. I guess I just sort of figured Clark would get it again and hide again. I mean how did they do it the first time around?

My only clue on the Lex-kills-Nixon bit was seeing Lex in the trailers with a gun. I like it that he killed Nixon in defense of Jonathan. And the anti-Lex faction can just argue that he did it out of pragmatism, to hide his backing of Nixon in the first place. Or... to protect Clark?
I don't think it was a bad thing; I think he acted bravely and for good reasons. Any other character would be seen as heroic for it. But Lex... Lex has a reputation, and everything he does looks - dark grey, if not black.
Are you aware of the ironies in your use of the word "ironic"? It was one of those buzz-words in the old Adventure Comics and Superman comics. You could identify the kids who read the comics because they knew words like 'ironic' and 'invulnerable'.
I don't think Clark was using Chloe; I think he genuinely likes her, but is still infatuated over Lana, and is still confused by his own feelings, and afraid of any kind of a close relationship that might reveal his secret.
As for what they did with the spaceship the first time, I imagine Martha and Jonathan towed it to their storm cellar with the tractor, and hid it. Clark was too young to help.
He might go pick it up this time, except he doesn't seem to be doing so at the end of the episode, and the Kents don't know where it is.

I just sat in stunned silence at the end of this episode! It was so great. Although, Chloe...kind of annoyed me this episode though. And this is coming from a big Chloe fan here! *gasp* She did it to herself though, she's the one who said to him to just be really good friends. What else would he say besides "ok" to that? I doubt that Lex will be seen as heroic for killing Nixon. The Kents will most likely think he did it to cover his own hide after Nixon said Lex was the one who said to investigate Clark, while we know it didn't exactly happen that way. I think he was being heroic and trying to save Clark, but what I think doesn't really affect the show I'm thinking that some one will find the spaceship and find out about Clark. I hope that Pete is the one to find it. It would give him such a good story line and he seems to be a really good friend to Clark, from what little we've seen anyway. Also, I've heard the spoiler that one if his friends finds out, which leads me to believe that the Kents won't find it first. Whew, my fingers hurt. Typing up homework and then this entry...

Well, I see Lex as heroic for killing Nixon and saving Jonathan.
It doesn't count, of course, but I hope Clark sees it the same way.

Quick question.. I was rewatching it last night on the WB Sunday and noticed (I think) that the spaceship flew up into the tornado. Was that the same one that Lana was in and Clark went into? Just seemed really really odd to me.

I think it was because before there were 3 twisters but then they combined into to just one. That one was the only one out there at the time.

I've read in several places that the ship was programmed to find Clark. Since he was in the tornado, the "little ship that could" tried to reach him. Unfortunately, it seems able to survive intergalactic flight and atmospheric re-entry with no problem, but falls apart in tornados. D'OH

Hello everyone! I'm Oscar...nice to meet you all!
I thought the premiere was great as well...but I had a couple of problems (just nit-picky stuff, I guess) and I wanted to see what you thought...
1) Re: the ship. The whole sequence felt really contrived -- the ship, after sitting there for over a decade, finally gets activated by the key only to fly into the tornado a minute later and have the key dislodged by lightning? I figured that the ship was simply returning to Clark...but still, it just felt too...easy, i guess, like they needed some sort of plot device for the season.
2) Lex killing Nixon. I have no problem with Lex pulling the trigger. But how did he know where to find Nixon, Clark and Jonathon? And why did he just happen to be carrying a gun (I don't think he ever carried one before)? I feel like a scene explaning this was cut due to time constraints.
Of course, I only have these problems because I like to drive myself nuts...overall, they're just two minor things that can be ignored.
So my purpose in posting them? uhh...
Hi!

Clark won't ever get to go 'home'? I don't think he ever wanted to. He wants to know what happened, who his birth parents were, why they sent him away - but I don't think he wants to go back. I think he is committed to our Earth, and the Kent family.
Besides, what he'll find out eventually is that Krypton no longer exists. Hence the meteor rocks.
At least... that's what he'll probably find out, but who knows what the storyline will come up with?
Personally, I love all the bits with the spaceship. I am happy to believe that it was damaged enough in its original flight and landing that it has a few quirks, like losing its key in heavy winds. I see it as a bit of a lost puppy, a stray wandered into Kansas farmland when it's built for flying between stars. An intergalactic cradle with no home - and it's only occupant wouldn't even fit into it any more.
I'm sure it has secrets still to divulge.
What did Clark do with the unreadable 'message' from his parents? Is it sitting somewhere in his bedroom, like Lana's tiaras in her drawer?
