Sherlock Latest: New Episode Titles And New Clues

As all die-hard Sherlock fans already know, they’re filming series three right now. I mean probably while you’re reading this, Benedict and Martin are bickering about something (in character, naturally).

Like NOW now.

But details of how it will all pan out are proving harder to come by. So far, we have discovered that the first episode of Series Three will be called The Empty Hearse and it has been written by Mark Gatiss. The Radio Times has a theory that this title offers hints as to precisely how Sherlock may have managed to fall from a tall building and not die, but it could just as easily be a pun on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original story The Empty House, which is also the one where Holmes returns from the dead.

The latest news is to do with the second episode, which will be called The Sign of Three, and has been written by Steve Thompson. The overlap with the original books is worth noting, as The Sign of Four was the book in which Watson meets his future wife Mary Morstan – a chance for Sherlock to show off his infamous social graces, perhaps?

Steve also wrote Sherlock’s fateful leap in The Reichenbach Fall, as well as Series One’s oriental mystery The Blind Banker. So he’s got form. He also wrote the forthcoming Doctor Who story Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS, of which the title is as intriguing as it is self-explanatory.

And the other news actually concerns the shoot itself. Sherlock producer Sue Vertue has pleaded with fans and non-fans alike to keep whatever information they can glean from witness accounts and sneaky pics to themselves, particularly as they are about to start filming in London. In a special blog for Sherlockology. She said:

“As many of you are aware, we’ll soon be embarking on our first London leg of filming for series 3. I’m also aware that there is quite a lot of speculation about where we’re shooting when. I can’t stress how much we the Producers and Benedict, Martin and the rest of the cast appreciate your love and dedication to our show – we’ll endeavour to live up to your expectations for Series 3.

“What I am nervous about is that our London shooting schedule is punishing and will really give us very little time to interact with you. The actors really hope you understand that.

“Also, and I know this is probably asking a lot, the majority of fans and indeed ourselves would REALLY appreciate it if you didn’t post pictures or spoilers or ideally our daily locations.

“Thanks for your understanding. Sue x”

And besides a few photos and some snippets of footage, there's been precious little detail on plot developments as the cast and crew continue to keep us guessing over that fall so any new material is bound to have you lot salivating.

Sherlock Series Three Rumour Control

Rumours have been flying today thanks to the apparent possibility of a Sherlock Christmas Special. While long time readers will know that the standard three episodes have been shot for Sherlock Series Three, we went directly to the BBC to reconfirm that none of these form the basis of a dedicated Christmas Special, which resulted in a swift denial - 'There won't be a Christmas Special.'

In addition, once again no airdate for Sherlock Series Three has been set as yet. For months a date of October 31 2013 has been erroneously posted on the Internet Movie Database, and we can now definitively confirm that this date is also false - post production on the third series will be ongoing through October and November. While we are not privy to any planned completion date for the new episodes, scheduling cannot take place until the completed episodes have been delivered to the BBC by Hartswood Films.

Rest assured, as soon as dates become available for the UK premiere of Sherlock Series Three, and any worldwide airings, Sherlockology will be sharing them as widely and as loudly as possible.
