Heigl talks underwear security and cute boys
I think Katherine Heigl has a crush on me.
I mean, seriously, how else would you explain her exuberant proclamation of love in this video clip?
Okay, so, she was just being sweet and playful as she hugged me goodbye. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't spread the rumor that we're in a blossoming romance and are planning to run away together, should it? Should it? (Ahem. Clearly I am the one with the crush. But what can I say, that girl is my favoritest girl in Hollywood, especially since she admitted she's a die-hard Everwood fan. But I digress...)
Such over-the-moon, delirium-inducing moments only happen at what has become my favorite event of the year, for it kicks such gluteus maximus: The Museum of Television and Radio's Paley Festival. It's that the two-week-long tube-a-palooza that puts fans in touch with the casts of some of the season's best shows.
I so wish you all could take part, but since I know many of you missed it, I bring you goodies from the first few nights--Grey's Anatomy, Entourage and Supernatural (with more coming next week). Enjoy!
Grey's Poop! First things first: For those of you wondering about rumors that a castmember is "leaving," supervising producer Krista Vernoff set me straight (sorta) during the Grey's Anatomy night at Paley: "It's not that an intern was leaving the show. The quote was that an intern was leaving the program, and honestly, we haven't actually decided yet. We haven't broken story yet for the finale. I'm assuming that it will happen at some point, because we set that up in the pilot, but I can't even say whether or not it'll happen before the end of the season, because we actually don't know yet."
I also asked Sandra Oh, but she just had a good laugh, saying, "You know, I heard that. I don't know. Maybe I won't have a job. I don't know! I love how you tell me what's going on with my show. That's terrible!" (You can see for yourself in the clip at left.)
Regardless, an even bigger topic that night was the now infamous George-Meredith hookup, which, as you know, left more than a few fans miffed. Some fans said they felt it came as a huge surprise, but Shonda Rhimes had this take: "I don't feel like it came out of nowhere. I feel like we've been leading up to that since the very first episode, when George introduced himself to Meredith and was very clearly interested in her. So, to me, it was a natural progression. I feel like a lot of shows would wait until season five to do that, and I was like, Let's just throw it all in there now and figure out what to do in season five in season five."
George himself, T.R. Knight, (who, by the way, has been hiding what looks like a new haircut now for a month--not sure why!) had this to say on the subject: "What I liked about it was...the touching. [Laughs] No, I just liked that George acted on something primal, but also, it wasn't just a 'poor George' moment. It's like George, yes, has loved her since the start, but he also hasn't been listening to her since the start, or he would have known she didn't love him. So, it's not that Meredith's bad. It's, like, he had a responsibility, too, and he didn't do it."
For the record, Patrick Dempsey was (get ready for the heart pangs) "hurt" by the Meredith-George hookup. (Now, get ready to drive over to his house and offer some sympathy...er, um, baked goods.) He says so in the clip at the right.
Other tidbits revealed to the Paley audience:
Sandra Oh originally auditioned for the part of the Nazi Miranda Bailey and mused, "Thank God I didn't get it. Can you imagine if we didn't have [Chandra Wilson]?" And how.
Ellen Pompeo was asked what she has in common with Meredith Grey, and she said, looking at Patrick Dempsey, "I really do have a crush on him!"
And Patrick told the story of his audition process and how Shonda Rhimes stared at him, expressionless. "I was completely terrified of her!" he said. "I left saying 'There's no way I can work with her.' " Shonda explained that she found him so dreamy she was brainstorming dialogue for him the whole time he was there.
Pshaw! As if people can't form sentences when they see Patrick...Mc...Demp...What was I saying?
Oh yeah, the thing I'm dying to tell you. I heard some scoop about an upcoming storyline that is so good I'm saving it for Monday's chat, so don't miss it!
