Dr. McDreamy Dishes on the 'Grey's Anatomy' FinaleMay 12, 2006
This Sunday night "Grey's Anatomy" will air the first of a two-part finale, with the second part airing on Monday, rather than the following week, in which Cristina (SANDRA OH) takes over the ER, Izzie (KATHERINE HEIGL) and Burke (ISAIAH WASHINGTON) feel pressure to find Denny (JEFFREY DEAN MORGAN) a new heart and Derek (PATRICK DEMPSEY) holds the life of a friend in his hands.
"People will be happy with the end result," Patrick tells ET's MARK STEINES, who made a visit to the set to try to sleuth out some spoilers -- to no avail. "It is what they want to see. We had a memo sent to us that we can't talk about it."
Patrick isn't kidding that a memo came down from executive producer SHONDA RHIMES requesting that the cast and crew keep the storyline secrets. So all, Patrick would reveal is: "There are two hours left and something is going to happen between Derek and Meredith (ELLEN POMPEO)."
Whether or not that something is a reconciliation, or just a meeting to talk about Doc, their dog, he isn't saying.
But before the hit ABC medical drama winds down for the year, "20/20" will be taking a look at the "Anatomy of Grey's Anatomy" as part of a two-hour special edition of "20/20," Friday, May 12 from 9 to 11 p.m.
The news program will go behind the scenes to investigate whether or not the bizarre cases for which "Grey's Anatomy" has become famous are based on fact or fiction.
As the show is fiction, some dramatic license is taken, but Shonda claims, "Everything we do is possible and has happened at least once sometime in the world."
Among the cases "20/20" is looking at are the woman who was diagnosed with Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome; Rasmussen's Syndrome, a case in which a little girl suffered so terribly from seizures that she had to have half her brain removed; and Broken Heart Syndrome, where a woman shows up at the hospital each year on the anniversary of a loved one's death with the symptoms of a heart attack.
For a sneak peek at the finale of "Grey's Anatomy," tune in to tonight's ET! Then catch "17 Seconds," part one of the season finale, on Sunday, May 14 at 10 p.m. on ABC; then part two, "Deterioration of the Fight or Flight Response" on Monday, May 15 at 9-11 p.m.
