Man! I wish I had had teachers like that! *pouts* My 10th grade Bio teacher was way cool, but we never got cool stuff. He never used the word 'test'. It was always a 'celebration'. hehehe...he was most cool. I miss him. He made up really cheezy lyrics to well-known songs to help us memorize the stuff. And it worked. Eight years later, I can still remember those songs. They got me through Microbiology!

I haven't had the experience of knowing a cool teacher yet. The only teacher I've had who was ok was my math teacher last year.

On the topic of birthdays, I have my 24th all planned. Or at least sketched out. I'm heading to an Irish pub in Canada. I went there last year, and I had a wonderful time with my mentor. But I don't know if she'll be around this year, so I'm going to drag my student-type friends up there at gunpoint. And, maybe, a few of my zookeeper-type friends, too. We shall see what happens.

Zook, that sounds like a lot of fun. And yeah, all those little squares took a long time to make. First, I had to sketch it with pencil and ruler and then go over it will a sharpie. Then I had to write in all the answers into the boxes. Then I had to cut little construction paper squares and tape them over all the boxes and write the points on those. Yep, about 3 hours. Plus then an hour shopping for the goodies and organizing in bags. Plus I have to get on the main computer Monday morning and type out the questions and answers and print them out one for me to read, and two a copy for everyone to take home at the end of class, so that's like another hour or so.

I used to think I wanted to be a teacher, because I love kids and I love helping people to learn and sharing my knowledge, but I tried subbing, and that was enough. Not that the kids were terrible (okay, so I have a new dislike of high school students...), just everything that goes into preparing a lesson and a daily plan. But if I were going to be a teacher, I'd probably work in early elementary education.

Yeah, I do 1st grade. It's a rough bunch. Hard to keep young children focused for long (I've found that candy works great as an incentive though ) But I don't think I would ever want to do older kids either. And I'm not sure I could imagine doing it as a full time teacher. Because I only do it once a week and doing the projects, lesson plan, reading material , grading papers- gosh just an hour a week of teaching takes me the rest of the week just to be prepared for the next class. I'd suffer if I did it everday for sure.

I can imagine. It's a tough job! But someone has to do it. I think it's a calling, just as being a zookeeper is a calling. I mean, it takes a special kind of insanity to be out in the bitter cold, scooping poop.

Yeah, mom wanted/wants me to be a Vet and I would love to, but...I adore animals so much and I'm such an emotional basketcase...I could NEVER handle losing one. So, I'll stick with trying to be a teacher.

Speaking firsthand as someone who's father wanted her to be a vet, just do what you love, and ignore the 'rents. Volunteer at the humane society or something, and fulfill your love for animals that way. Kudos for recognizing now that you're better off elsewhere. It'll save you, and those working around you, a lot of frustration down the line.

When you said you'd be playing with Big Bird, all I could think of was the very obnoxious, slightly nasty great horned owl in the zoo mews, used for education programs. lol THEN I remembered that the original Big Bird is a tall yellow Muppet.

Wooohooo! Happy birthday Cory! Next drink is on me (do pubs accept Paypal?) Hope you have a great one. Claire - it is always time for a new computer! One of my mottos is: Computer equipment says "I love you." Remind your family members/friends of this around birthdays and holidays. Keep the flowers and jewelry, I want a flat screen monitor!
