Author: vegas312

Disclaimer: I do not own Roswell so please don't sue me.

Rating: TEEN

Coupling: M/L

Summary: Post ARCC. Valentine's Day has come to Roswell and as everyone hooks up and plan their romantic plans, Liz finds herself alone on a rainy Valentine's Day and contemplates what's her life is going to be like now that she is alone. But is she really alone?

AN: This is going to be short and simple. My muse is stalking me with Valentine's Day fics when I keep telling her that we're supposed to be concluding up my other stories. LOL Anyway hope ya'll enjoy and onto the story. 'Angel? by Sarah McLachlan.

Dedication: For Mary, whose spirit shines brightly and who is ever the daydreaming romantic.

'Spend all your time waiting for that second chance
For the break that will make it OK
There's always some reason to feel not good enough
And it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction or a beautiful release?

He stood in the rain and watched the girl, who held his heart, danced slowly around her bedroom. He noticed the purple ribbons that were intertwined in her long chestnut braid that seemed to glow as she twirled around the room.

'Memories seep from my veins
Let me be empty and weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight
In the arms of the Angel far away from here?

She continued to dance as she remembered what might have been if she hadn't had a visitor from the future. What would have been a happy day if she hadn't given into the pleads of the man who she would love for all eternity. But despite all that had happened since that fateful day that she had decided to help Future Max, she didn't regret that she gave up a future with Max because hopefully she had changed the future for the better. The only thing she truly regretted was the look of pain on Max's face when he saw her and Kyle in bed together. She stopped dancing and with a sigh moved to turn off the radio. Not quite sure what to do now, she stopped in front of the window and looked up at the dark sky that continued to shower the world with rain. Blowing on the cold window, she traced a heart on the fog and added in the initials, 'M.E. +L.P?.

A smile tugged at her lips as she thought about last year Valentine's Day when she unwittingly found herself on a blind date and later kidnapped a slightly intoxicated alien. While she stood smiling at the heart, the figure moved deeper into the shadows not wanting to be seen, but keeping close enough to see what had made Liz smile. Seeing the heart on the window, he smiled as he too remember a much bigger heart that had glowed and had been his declaration of love, independence, and stepping from behind a tree.

'From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent revelry
In the arms of the Angel; may you find some comfort here
You're in the arms of the Angel; may you find some comfort here?

'Well, I guess I can't sit here and feel completely sorry for myself. I did get some Valentine's Day gifts even if they were from Maria and Alex,? she turned away from the window and moved to the bed. Sitting down she pulled the two bags towards her and laughed at the brightly pink bag that was shaped like a pig and had the words, 'I oink you.' She pulled out white tissue paper that was decorated with hearts and found a note on top of a box of scented candles and five DVDs, one of which was the 'Princess Bride?. Opening the note she read it out loud, 'Here are candles to light up your world and guide you towards a better future, and movies that will show that there's nothing wrong with a little romance. Have an awesome Valentine's Day and if you change your mind you know you're welcome to join us. Love, Alex.' She hugged the note to her, 'I hope Isabel appreciates you. Now if I could find my prince charming or rather if I could keep my prince charming that would make me happy. Well at least I get to watch Buttercup and Wesley.'

Smiling she reached for the other bag that was shaped like a blue purse with a red heart on it that read, 'I dig your style.' 'Hmm I wonder what Maria got me. I hope she didn't pack any cedar oil in here. Last time she gave me medicine, dad thought we were conspiring to sell drugs.' She shook her head at the memory and dug through the blue tissue paper with red kisses on it, and found a note on top of a box of Godiva candy, a small stuff animal shaped like a pig, and a pair of fussy red handcuffs. 'Oh God,? Liz laughed as she pulled the items out. 'What in the world does Maria expect me to do with this?' Shaking her head for what seemed like the fourth time in a second she opened the note and read, 'Sweets for my sweet friend. A pig because he's adorable and I know you got a thing for big ears, and finally handcuffs so you can go finally hunt your man down once and for all. Have an awesome Valentine's Day and I got to say there's nothing wrong with dreaming. Love, Maria.'

Liz sat the purple pig next to her and sat the bags on the dresser next to the bed. Grabbing the candles, she took out two cherry blossoms and walked over to her desk and sat them down. Rooting through the desk drawer she found a lighter and leaned over and lit the candles. Closing her eyes she inhale the sweet scent and thought that she wasn't really alone because she still had such wonderful friends who would always be around to support her as she would do for them. She might not have the man of her dreams, but she did have her friends and couldn't ask for anything more. Opening her eyes, she put the lighter back into the drawer. She grabbed the 'Princess Bride? DVD and popped into the player and pressed play. Soon the previews started and she turned the lights off and got ready to lie on the bed when a knock sounded at the window.

'Memories seep from my veins
Let me be empty and weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight
In the arms of the Angel far away from here?

Barely catching herself from screaming she stormed over the window while muttering, 'I swear if this is Sean, I'm going to push him off the balcony for scaring me so bad. She stopped in front of the window with a gasp and stared into amber eyes not sure what was going on. He gave her a hesitant smile and pointed at the sky. Not sure what he was pointing to she looked up at the sky and not seeing anything she frowned at him. He held his hand out to her and mouthed, 'Are you going to let me in?'

Trying to not blush at the reminder that it was raining and that she hadn't let him in, she unlock the window and pushed it open. 'Max, what are you doing out in this storm?'

'Oh I was just in the neighborhood and I figured that I would stop by and say hello. Well that and the fact that everyone told me that you would all by yourself,? he smiled shyly at her.

'Everyone told you that huh,? she moved aside as he stepped into the room and briefly thought about calling her so-called friends and letting them have it. 'This is such a Maria and Alex plan.'

He walked past her and she noticed that he has brought in the scent of the rain. Closing the window behind him, she locked it and turned to find Max staring at the purple pig.

'Nice pig. It matches your outfit,? he motioned to her long white and purple skirt and white blouse.

'Thanks, I think,? she laughed. 'I better get you a towel before you catch a cold.' She hurried off to the bathroom before he could say anything else. Quickly pulling a towel off the shelf she hurried back into her room to find Max gone and the music coming from the TV letting her know that the movie was ready to start. 'Okay, either I finally gone off my rocker or he flew out of here,? she stared in bewilderment wondering if maybe she was really losing it. 'Alright I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation for this, but my movie is getting ready to start and I just don't feel like solving it.'

She sat down and grabbed the remote. Kicking her heels off she lay back against her pillows and cuddled up with her purple pink, who she decided to call Flea. It was a weird name for a purple pink, but somehow it seemed to fit the little guy. She got ready to press play when her bedroom door opened and Max walked in with a small white gift bag and a plastic bag and a big pizza box that had a six pack of Cherry Coke sitting on it. Liz moved to help him and he shook his head at her to stay there, 'I got it. Sorry about disappearing on you, but I had to run down and grab the food.'

He sat everything on the bed mindful not to squish the purple pink that seemed to staring at him. 'Alright Evans you have to calm down otherwise you're going to ruin it all.'

'Max, what is all this?'

Handing her the small white gift bag, he opened the plastic bag and pulled out utensils, paper plates, napkins, and cups. 'Well Alex, Isabel, Maria, Michael, Tess, and Kyle mentioned that you would be home by yourself watching movies, so they or rather I thought it would be nice to hang out together since neither one of us has a date,? he continued to look through the plastic bag not wanting to see what she thought.

Hearing the names she didn't know whether to yell her devious friends or thank them. She stared at him as he continued to pull stuff out, then she looked at the white gift bag in front of her. 'Well I guess we should enjoy the peace and quiet now before they all come over later,? Liz laughed. He looked up and smiled at her and she caught her breathe at the sight. The two stared at each before Liz ducked her head and busied herself by taking the blue tissue paper out of the bag. 'Max, you didn't have to get me anything,? she started and stopped as she saw the heart shaped jewelry box. Pulling it out carefully she sat it down in front of her and opened it slowly. Inside shining brilliantly against the black velvet was a silver keychain that had two intertwining hearts that seemed to sparkle and glitter. 'Oh it's beautiful,? she blinked back the tears that threatened to fall.

'I'm glad you like it. I know it's no big glowing heart on the wall, but I figured that your dad wouldn't be too happy with me defacing his property again,? he said humorously.

She caught her breathe at his words, and cradled the keychain in her hand, 'You remember that night last year?'

'You're my dream girl.'

She stared at him not sure what to say or what to do, but apparently her heart knew for a second later she leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek.

He held stilled at the touch of her lips upon his cheek and as she started to move back, his hand caught her chin and he gently held her in place as he leaned forward and kissed her for the first time in many months. Both closed their eyes at the touch and a few minutes later moved away. He looked at her, she looked at him, and each gave a shy smile and knew deep down that today was the first day of a new beginning.

Clearing his throat, Max opened the pizza and started putting slices on the plates as Liz leaned down and grabbed two sodas. A few minutes later the two were lying back against the pillows with the purple pig by their feet as they watched Wesley searched for his Buttercup.

Liz turned her head and looked at Max and thought, 'maybe I'm not as alone as I think.'

Max feeling a stare looked away from the movie and winked at Liz. 'So do you think Buttercup and Wesley lived happily ever after?'

'Something tells me that they did just fine,? she winked at him and turned to look back at the movie content for the first time in a long time.

'Cool.'

The End
