James has a new movie coming out this year called, The Rules of Attraction. It looks interesting.

I couldn't get the trailer to play for me, but that could just be me.
I did find details about the movie on UpComingMovie.com, here they are:
Release Date: October 11th, 2002 (wide release) (pushed back two weeks from September 27th, 2002; first scheduled for April, 2002)

Cast: James Van Der Beek (Sean Bateman), Ian Somerhalder (Paul Owen), Shannyn Sossamon (Lauren), Jessica Biel (Lara), Clifton Collins, Jr. (Rupert), Faye Dunaway (Mrs. Owen), Ron Jeremy, Swoosie Kurtz, Thomas Ian Nicholas (Mitchell), Kip Pardue (Victor), Fred Savage, Eric Stoltz, Colin Bain (Donald), Jay Baruchel, Claire Kramer, Joel Michaely

Director: Roger Avary (Killing Zoe; next up will be Mexicali)

Screenwriter: Roger Avary (Killing Zoe; cowriter of Pulp Fiction; he's also got a remake of Seconds in development)

Based Upon: The 1988 novel of the same title by Bret Easton Ellis, which was his second book after Less than Zero, and before American Psycho, which focused on Patrick Bateman (who briefly appears in this film), older brother of one of the characters, Sean Bateman, in this film. The central character of Less Than Zero, Clay, also makes an appearance in this film (as does the central character from Ellis' Glamorama).

Premise: Set at an affluent New England liberal arts college (Camden College; it's fictional) during the 1980's, this film takes a satiric look at an emerging sexual triangle between Sean Bateman (Van Der Beek), who deals drugs on the side, Paul Owen (Somerhalder), who's bisexual, and Paul's ex-girlfriend, Lauren (Sossamon). (Stoltz plays a professor; Dunaway plays Paul's mother; Collins plays a drug dealer; Kramer and Nicholas will have many scenes together)

I rented it a few weeks back.. and I agree with you guys.. I'll not be able to look at Dawson in the same light again. Thats almost like the time I read a slash fic with him and a certain other DC character.. and for weeks.. I couldn't stop laughing. :)

I didn't like the movie.. but I thought James' acting was great. :)

My mum went to see it accidentally, thinking it was some kinda Dawson's Creek movie.

Bit of a shock for her. James was great in it though, difficult to stop being type cast but I think he's managed it. (although I will be thinking of that toilet scene whenever I see him now!:barf

I found it a type of dark comedy. I didn't think that the movie as a whole was bad, just some of the stuff in it. Drugs, violence, nudity, Dawson jacking off to internet porn:glare :shake , gross things in general.
