SEASON PREMIERE SYDNEY LEARNS THAT SHE IS PREGNANT WITH VAUGHN'S BABY, AND VAUGHN IS UNDER INVESTIGATION, SUSPECTED OF BEING A DOUBLE AGENT, ON THE SEASON PREMIERE OF ABC'S "ALIAS" The electrifying Emmy Award-winning spy drama, "Alias," returns for an emotionally gripping fifth season in the life of CIA agent Sydney Bristow. Jennifer Garner stars in her Golden Globe Award-winning role in this non-stop thrill ride through espionage, adventure and heart-wrenching drama. "Alias" will have its season premiere on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network. After Sydney accepted an assignment to be a member of a new black ops sector of the CIA, known as APO, she was shocked to discover that Sloane was heading up the unit. Without an ounce of trust for her nemesis, Sydney kept a watchful eye on him, as did Vaughn, Dixon and Marshall. But she had to keep her suspicions in tow while working with her half-sister and Sloane's daughter, Nadia, in order not to alienate her and lose her trust. Sydney was hard-pressed to define the enigma that is Sloane when he shot his own daughter in order to save Sydney's life. Meanwhile, Jack's near-death experience and the truth behind why he had wrongly believed he killed his ex-wife and Sydney's mother, Irina Derevko, strengthened the bond between father and daughter; and fianci Vaughn's revelation that he may not be the man Sydney thought he was caught her completely off guard, and a horrendous car accident left their fates in limbo. In the season premiere episode, "Prophet Five," after learning that the man she has known as Michael Vaughn is under investigation and suspected of being a double agent, Sydney begins to question whether their business and personal relationship over the years had all been a lie. When she discovers that she's pregnant with Vaughn's baby, she becomes determined to uncover the truth about him. Meanwhile, because of Jack's past betrayal by Irina, he begins to worry that his daughter may suffer the same fate that he did. This season, new agents will be introduced and a nefarious organization will come to light in Sydney's life as she fights to protect her unborn child -- all the while traveling incognito, outsmarting the bad guys and keeping the world safe. That was even worse than I was expecting. Oy. And vey. But on the other hand, they did sorta leave it opened, but I tend to think they did a number in the editing room to make it seem like it. I don't know. The total lack of emotion at the funeral/when Vaughn died still pisses me off... -Hannah |

I watched ALias the first 2 seasons and then missed most of it in 3 and 4...but I caught it the other night and all I can say is WTF? I just can't watch it if Vaughn is not on! |

ITA and what makes this transformation even worse is that it didn't need to happen and it involved killing off a core character for absolutely NO reason. I went back and watched the premiere again and I still don't understand the need for killing Vaughn off. At least IF Vaughn hadn't been able to explain everything, you could understand... to a degree, but he did. In one scene. Everything was known and out in the open. Vaughn should be THERE and nothing they do/say will ever truly explain why this happened. I still think Vaughn is alive though and will turn up in the final few episodes or something... if the show makes it to the finale anyways. From what I've seen of the ratings, I don't think so. -Hannah |

He better be one of the characters that doesn't stay dead. It's not even the beginning of this season alone that has irked me. Thinking back to previous seasons I can distinctly remember 1/2 and even 3, but with season 4 and now the start of this season I keep on thinking- Um, what happened that's worth remembering? And all I can think of about last season was the excess Rambaldi crap with Sloane/Nadia. Blah, I really miss season 1/2 |

I know; I miss seasons 1 and 2 as well. That was when Alias was the BEST thing on television. I just don't understand any of the motivation behind season 3 and even moreso season 5. Season 4 was okay. Not great, but passable. I thought season 3 was the worst piece of crap ever(okay, so that was because of Lauren, but also because the show NEVER explained any of Vaughn's motivation in marrying Lauren); season 4 had some decent material. Although, I didn't like the way they used Dixon(his relationship with Chase.. the heck?); I wasn't wild about Nadia either. Although, I liked some of her scenes with Sydney. I still don't like the fact that we won't know why Irina slept with Sloane. Irina NEVER would have done that and it's still just hanging out there. Anyways, back to Vaughn... if you go back and watch the hospital scenes, honestly, I think they left it open for Vaughn to come back in the final half of the season. Sydney's total lack of emotion at the funeral; in the hospital when Vaughn dies; the looks between Jack and Sydney; the camera's focus on the water cup that Sydney gives Vaughn; when Sydney is sitting with Vaughn, she holds his hand(and, appears to give him something). I don't think it was part of the plan though(from what I gather, they did a nice editing job on this episode), so I tend to think they've probably changed the plan(Vaughn staying dead). Or, maybe I'm just wishful thinking. I'll stick around UNTIL they either start ruining Vaughn's character or they try hooking Sydney up with the "fun" guy(the new agent Thomas Grace who shows up in the next episode). I'm just, sadly, too invested in this show to bail right now... -Hannah |
