Word of warning to y'all out there: I decided to organize my Zip disk, where I keep all my story files. So, in the process of this, I want to move a file off the disk to my desktop. Okay, fine. So I click and drag the icon, and the folder is now on the disk and on the desktop. Huh. The file didn't move. It just copied. So I delete the file off the desktop and go to open the one on my disk. The folder is empty. As in totally. The stupid OS *moved* all the documents, but *copied* the folder. If it wasn't for the fact I have my Recycling Bin set to hold everything until I choose to empty it, all my most recent work would have totally vanished. So, please, be careful! And buy Mac, okay? Windows is evil. |

I love my XP! I love it so much that I just upgraded my other machine from 98 to XP. I didn't think I'd like it because I really liked 2000, but I had to give back the 2000 machine I was using and it seems everything comes with XP now, so my new Dell came that way. But about copying the files vs moving - I have had that happen in NT & 2000. Drag and drop isn't a always good idea with files on disks. I don't see myself ever getting a Mac. I've heard they're good if you're doing graphic design, but not so much for everything else. I tried to use one once when they were still pretty new(I mean in the olden days, before anyone had even heard of Bill Gates) and hated it, and have never tried one again. |

Well I have Millennium on my laptop and XP on the main and really they both seem to work fine for me. I'm not even sure if I see the difference. |

I have never even seem Millenium, but I thought it was the home version and 2000 is the professional version. Is it more like XP than 2000? I have XP Professional, so I wonder if it's better than the home version? I really don't know what the difference is b/t home & pro, but I have only used pro on everything. |

I don't have XP, but I like the name because XP is a common anime-fandom face people use online.. I have a Mac, they really aren't as horrible as everyone makes them out to be.. I've ALWAYS had a mac because my dad loves them, sells them, fixes them, etc. The only downside is they don't have as many programs to watch/download/listen to clips, episodes, music, etc. Like, mine does not want to support KaZaA, it never supported napster.. the only programs I have to view clips are RealPlayer and Quicktime, and I managed to screw up Quicktime by attempting to install the newest version of it.. ah well.. I do have WinampMac, so that's a bit of a plus.. |

I have XP Pro too, so I don't know what the difference is between that and the home version. I had to put Windows 98 on my computer awhile back, can't recall the reason, and I thought my head was going to explode! I love how XP is not so boxy...it's smoother graphis wise and has alot more little things you can do. I just love it! ME was alright. It was totally the transition software between 98 and XP. Colors start to look the same, but still boxy. |

Well, I guess we have XP Home. That's what Mike just said. I don't know the difference honestly. |

Well this is what the Windows site says about if you should have Home or Pro: Windows XP Home Page Which Edition Is Right for You? When upgrading to the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, you have a choice between Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home Edition. Windows XP Professional contains all the features of Windows XP Home Edition, plus extra features for business and advanced home computing. Is Windows XP Professional the best choice? Ask yourself these five questions to find out which one is right for you: Do you want to remotely access your computer so you can work with all your data and applications while away from your desk? Remote Desktop, a feature found only in Windows XP Professional, lets you set up your computer for connection from any other Windows-based computer. Leave a file at home? Don't want to lug a laptop around? Remote Desktop gives you access to your computer from virtually anywhere. More about Remote Desktop. Do you connect to a large network? Windows XP Professional is best for people who connect to large networks, such as a school or office network, since it allows you to join and be managed by a Windows domain. More about joining networks. Do you need to protect sensitive data in files and folders that are stored on your computer? The Encrypting File System (EFS), found in Windows XP Professional but not Windows XP Home Edition, allows you to encrypt your files and folders for added security of sensitive data against theft or hackers. Restricted File Access, also found only in Professional, allows you to restrict access to selected files, applications, and other resources. More about EFS. Do you need the ability to completely restore your system in the event of a catastrophic failure? Windows XP Professional provides more robust options for backing up and restoring data than Home Edition. More about System Restore and other restore options. Would you consider yourself a "power user"? Windows XP Professional contains a number of incremental features too numerous to list here. Suffice it to say, users who demand the most from their computers will want to "go Pro." Some additional features found only in Windows XP Professional are: Advanced networking for multiple PC environments Internet Information Services (IIS), a Windows XP Professional feature that lets you host and manage personal Web sites Support for multiple-processor systems Support for multiple languages More about Windows XP Professional features. If you answered "yes" to one or more of the questions above, Windows XP Professional is the right operating system for you. |

Thanks Cory! That was interesting. Of course I answered No to everyone of those so I'm guessing that would be why we have the home version. |

I don't know which version is for me. I mean, I sit at my computer to do the usual Word stuff for school, and when I write my stories, but what kind of OS is most condusive to helping you acheive the goal of total and complete world domination? It's such a hassle to try to find an OS that is strong and fast enough to help you manage an entire globe in real time format, but flexible enough to adjust when you need turn a country into a smouldering crater because the citizens refused to submit to your rule. Truly, doing that is so annoying; I mean, having to take the time to bomb them means I don't have time to study Mammalogy, and I need to pass that test! sheesh...but I digress. So, what OS is best for the up and coming world dictator? |

Zook - I find that having a fleet of computer experts is helpful when plotting World Domination. All I do is sit here and email them instructions and they do the rest. |
