I heard about your take on a smallville eppy with Clark and Lana and how much they re-minded you of Max and Liz's character. Do you remember the eppy and what you said about it. If you know the link...just re-post it, please! Thanks! Heather |

Dear Blondie, I am not really sure what you are referring to? How Smallville has so many similarities to Roswell season wonderful, i.e. a shy, dark haired, sweet alien on earth has a crush on a dark-haired, small-town girl who happens to be dating the captain of the football team? Or, are you referring to the scene in Smallville at Whitney's father's funeral and the "love-triangle" between Whitney, Lana, and Clark, where Clark and Lana really want to be together, but circumstances are forcing them to be apart? I am not sure exactly what you are referencing in your question? Love, Rick |

Dear Blondee, You are sure asking a lot of me! I can hardly remember this morning and you are asking me about something I wrote months ago. I will try to remember the gist of what I was saying about that scene from the funeral. In my opinion, that scene was the finest of Smallville by far all season. It reminded me of my favorite Michael/Maria scene from Roswell season wonderful-where Michael came to Maria's window in Independence Day. He had lost his only "home", staying with the alcoholic, abusive Hank...and he had nowhere to go. He went by the Evan's, and saw Max and Isabel playing basketball in the driveway with their parents. It was a world he didn't fit into. He had lost that chance when he refused to take Max's hand when the Evan's found them in the desert. So Michael went to Maria, for he would understand. She didn't "fit" into the "perfect" Ozzie and Harriet world either. She lived in a broken home-her father ran out on her and her mother years ago. And Amy was more like the child to Maria than her mother much of the time. He knew that Maria would understand. She let him into her room and held him while he cried. He never said a word. He never had to. She would understand. Michael "said" more in that scene with no dialogue than he had ever said before. THAT was great writing and REAL drama. I do like Smallville, but I'll be honest: I find the show full of lost opportunities and rather superficial. That is why I was floored by the funeral scene. Up until that time, the only three-dimensional character on the show was Lex Luthor. But the funeral scene added depth to the characters of Whitney, Lana, and Clark. Lana had drifted apart from Whitney. She had finally realized her feelings for Clark, but since Whitney's father was ill, she stayed with him because underneath it all, she is a good-hearted person and just couldn't hurt him further when he was down and needed her strength. Clark, also being a true friend, would never make his feelings known and try to steal away Lana from Whitney. Although Whitney had treated Clark badly, he still considers him a friend. Clark will make his feelings known to Lana only if she is no longer dating Whitney. He just wouldn't hurt a friend intentionally. Lana finally decides that she is going to tell Whitney the truth and take a chance with Clark because Mr. Ford is feeling better when tragedy strikes-he dies. There they are at the funeral. Whitney grief-stricken over the loss of his father, losing him after it has already cost him his scholarship and his dream of getting out of Smallville. Now he is clinging onto Lana like she is the only thing keeping him going. Lana looks at Clark with longing in her eyes for she would rather be with him but she cannot hurt Whitney after he has lost everything else in his life, and Clark looking at Lana, knowing that he cannot pursue a relationship with her because of how devastated Whitney is over everything. Nothing is said, but everything is said. It defines all of their characters. How important friendship is to each of them, and what they are willing to sacrifice of their own personal happiness to do what they consider is the right thing. And Clark walks off into the rain...alone. Love, Rick |

That funeral scene was very beautifully emotional and you depicted it wonderfully. I haven't kept up with smallville to grasp the sequence of the show. But when I saw that funeral seen..it was haunting how it took on the Max & Liz vibe. so I agree with everything you felt for the show (smallville) up until that funeral scene. |

Dear Rabbit, Since they are showing Smallville reruns twice a week, it won't be too long before that eppy will be reshown, and then you can get to see the standout scene of the season! And make sure you tape it, because you will want to see it over and over... Love, Eeyore |

Quote: Quote: And make sure you tape it, because you will want to see it over and over... My beloved, I really don't think this would be a good idea for me. Remember last time I tried this? It ran out of tape 15 minutes into the show. And yes, I've been checking every freakin week and so far it's not being reshown for the whole month of August. I'm hoping for September, but the Premiere is on the 24th, so I'm not sure. |
